For some reason, I thought Eric's birthday was tomorrow, the 2nd.

So, if it's today,
Happy Birthday, Eric!!!

And, if it's tomorrow, you really ought to start celebrating today!

:D
Finally awake after being up rather late! We are plotting how to get into Karlon's house without a key.

Fire looks good, air-tankers are working. Voluntary evacuation remains in effect, but I see that most of my neighbors have also returned.
Clearly, there was confusion about voluntary versus mandatory evacuation. This is reflected in countless Facebook posts.
And... ya know.... All people are individual personalities, and have their own emotions, and so on... and it is entirely possible that the deputy who drove down the next street over, alternating siren and loudspeaker, may have been "in mandatory evacuation mode".

Did I mention the weird coincidence that I had to go to Sacramento anyway? I think I did -- to pick up Karlon. So I did not much resist leaving, since I needed to leave a couple hours later anyway. Very weird coincidence.
Up until then, I had the garden hose ready all day, in case of a burning ember.

Anyway.... Thanks a millions for all the moral support!

Woohoo Elliot! May the fire gods keep you out of their path.

Keep that hose nearby, just in case! Stay safe.

Glad to hear that things are looking better on the fire front. Hope you can figure out how to get into your friend's house!

It is HOT here. Seriously lacking motivation to do anything productive, but my boyfriend and his roommates are moving into a new house today so I really ought to go help them. I could use a cold beer first though... *pours a round for whoever else is here*

Oh, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Eric!

Ok, kiddies…. just returned from the beach where I had the honor of performing the wedding ceremony for my son. The two of them are a big part of our Burning Man greeter family, Zach and Manda. I am over the moon happy.

A brief respite and then BBQ here at the house. What a wonderful day…..

Glad to hear you are home and feeling relatively safe, Elliot. The fires this year are no joke.

Thanks, Danibel; thanks all of you! The fire is growing, but moving away from here, going largely NNE, toward Hwy 20 and Hwy 16. In fact, Hwy 20 is closed all the way from Clearlake to Williams. There is an "impressive" glow in the sky straight east from here, but no smoke here, testifying to favorable (from my point of view) wind direction.

Anybody familiar with Regal Brau lager beer, from Monroe, Wisconsin? Grocery Outlet has 30-packs for $11. I bought a few, but it seems to have a slight off-flavor. Might be nothing.

About the Regal Brau lager beer.... Comparing it with PBR, Regal has more flavor. But that flavor seems bitter. But then, I am a "sweets" kind'a guy -- sweet bread, never sourdough. Thoughts?

One of those jetliner tankers just swooped low overhead, clearly on a "bombing" run. Very impressive.
The fire is heading away from here. But now the Wilbur Hot Springs resort may be in danger -- as if they have not had enough fires over the years.

I don't have a real camera these days -- gave it to my brother.
But I saw a fabulous shot of this jetliner tanker in mid-drop. If I remember right, it was on the Wall Street Journal website. But now I cannot find it.

OMG
best bacon ever
when I asked what kind, he whispered;
"brush maple syrup on the bacon before you prepare it."
and the omelet was with brie strips and asparagus tips. Yum !

Wilbur Hot Springs was my favorite go to place when I got a kinked up neck from school.
Perfect.

so glad you are okay Elliot.

Like this?

When he puts out his lamp, he sends the flower, or the star, to sleep.

View from my front yard (thru crummy shirt-pocket camera) about half hour ago, just before dark -- with jet-liner climbing out after water drop.

Here's what can be seen from Jerome...
