I lived in Michigan for a short time, and a twister took out something like 80 homes only a few miles away.
I remember that day, because the air was green and smelled like a science experiment.

The planet was not designed to accommodate us. We are simply one of the countless happenstances of nature. All kinds of things try to hurt us -- radioactive gases seeping up from the earth, UV rays from the "life-giving" sun, myriad life-forms living their own lives inside us, caring not a whit whether they hurt us or benefit us. We have evolved as all these forces have influenced us, and we will continue to evolve. Maybe in some millions of years "we" will be impervious to fire -- and water will be toxic to us.

Meanwhile -- fires, twisters, earthquakes be damned -- we can enjoy life. :D :D :D

ECM set to extra lively. Safety and peace of mind to our friends in fire areas.

It's my weekend and I have lots to accomplish. Stitching, and soldering, sorting, and music.

Happy. One millionth. Post! You folks give me so much. A huge thanks to all.

Things have been ramped up to 10 around Goddammit Labs for a while.
Work isn't over but the big things seem to be done, it looks like I MIGHT not be in full-panic scramble mode all the way up to the last second this time.
But of course, ...

As is the case every morning, there is essentially no sign of the fire here. That's the effect of the coolness of night. Then the intensity of the fire builds thru the day to the scary columns of smoke we see in the heat of late afternoons.

I'm waaaaaayyyy behind in preparations, but it will all work out just fine.

I'm sure glad you seem to be out of the fire's direct path!
I'm also glad it's happening while you're still home to grab your important stuff and split if it did come to your place.

Woohoo for no signs of fire, Elliot!

And woohoo for post #1 meeellllleeeooonnn, Gaminwench!

And glad to hear things are working out for you, Captain. My whole last week has been pretty nuts in the build department, with a lot of night shifts on tools and long days and back and leg pain. The pain isn't so much from any injury, just a lifetime of abuse and punishment... but it's time to get 'er done and I'm in a panic. I'm departing earlier this year, so that has me a bit more sensitive to all the stuff I still have to finish. I've been taking pics, once I get a chance I'll be back on the board a bit more (thanks to the rest of the mod team for covering for me so far), and hopefully get some stuff posted.

Much needed rain here this evening....

Panic mode is finally setting in, I leave in 25 days and I am quickly beginning to realize that I've procrastinated too long in doing what I wanted to get done  All the important things are mostly in order, just finishing costumes etc. that will be a mad flurry of activity for the next few weeks.

Hi Lucky!!! have a nice work!

cooler temps and humidity......hoping it helps the folks get a jump on the 24 ish fires here in CA, especially the big one threatening homes and lives.

Morning, Lucky and YG. Has anyone heard how Elliot is doing up in Clear Lake? Last I heard the fire was moving away from where he lives.

Yes, thanks, the situation is steadily improving here. Not so for folks further north and a bit east, but the east side of Clearlake proper, where I live, is becoming safer each day. Besides the official information, I go by how scary the "afternoon flareup" looks each day, and that gets less alarming each day. Yesterday, the afternoon flareup was all gone before dark. So no worries here.

That video I posted is of a McDonnell Douglas DC-10, which is a common "wide-body" passenger airliner. It dumps 12,000 gallons fire-retarder in a swath 300 feet wide and a mile long. Pretty impressive!
There exists a Boeing 747 Jumbo jet tanker, which carries 24,000 gallons, but apparently we don't rate that one.
