Hello, long time festival attedee first time burner

Post by Lotus Eater » Tue Aug 04, 2015 1:59 pm

I would like to say hello to this wonderful community. I have been filming and photographing festivals for the last 5 years, I attend at the very least 6 each Festival season, this year will be my first Burn. Can't wait to meet all of you beautiful people. Oh, I am from a tiny little island on the Coast of British Columbia (Denman Island) This will also be the first time I have ever been in a desert!

Welcome lotuseater. One thing that will be very different for you is you need to put away the camera. Seeing it through a lense can ruin it for you.

I can never put away the camera, I feel naked without it. Also I am on the media team shooting some footage for a documentary I am working on.

What's this "festival" thing you mentioned?

If you are working with your camera, choose the days/times (sunrise and sunset are best for light) to work.

Leave your camera in camp for the majority of your time in BRC.

Your experience will thank you.

If you have never been in a desert, start increasing your water intake now. By a lot. You need to get used to drinking plenty, and when you're out there you need to make sure you're getting electrolytes as well (from pedialyte or a sports drink)

Welcome
Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

Welcome, LotusEater! :D

Never been to the desert, eh? Bring something to moisturize every part of your body. Artificial tears (not redness relief), a couple of SPF lip balms, thick lotion, and some liquid bandage for your cuticles.

If you are prone to nosebleeds, bring some cheap saline for your nose. :)
