I'm thinking I need smaller hands to do the wiring I imagine. It seems so simple when it's in my mind. The real world is a bit more ponderous. I really like the Anderson powerpole plugs I bought, I wonder why I want to put switches into the mix for my battery box... the plugs work very well and are easy to assemble.

I am going to empty out the car today and start with a blank slate for packing up.

Holy crap, just look down the page at all the "new" posters looking for tickets. A veritable wasteland out there. I was on the phone with my campmate while he tried unsuccessfully to buy a VP for his half of our camp and said it opened early. I guess I am the entire camp this year. I will do my best.

Ygmir, that reminds me of the Pee Wee Herman show, one of my all-time favorites. Pee Wee was speaking to Cowboy Curtis and said "Hey Cowboy Curtis, you know what big hands and big feet mean? Big gloves and big shoes". Classic.

It's my standard recipe.
1. Make a large mug of hot tea (Trader Joes has a nice mint melange, and also just regular peppermint tea. This recipe works with any type of tea, lemon ginger is in rotation lately also)
2. forget about it for hours
3. when you are feeling thirsty, remember the mug of tea, now cold.
4. perhaps add ice.
5. drink rapidly.

and oh yeah,
I have a friend long time burner who failed in his ticket/vp attempt today on omg. any help appreciated.

wow, the OMG sale. yay for those who "got Lucky*, but dang, lots are still in need.

I do think there is "method behind the madness" relating to the VP's:
my theory:
The BLM, et al, have said there is a max. number of vehicles, they will allow at the TTITD, on playa or even on the way in and out.
I think the VP idea, does a couple of things.
First, it gets people to carpool, or find other ways to get there.
Second, it gets people used to the idea of a limited number of vehicles.
Right now, the number of passes is pretty close to what is the number of vehicles normally there (people hoarding not withstanding). But, as the population increases, but the vehicle number remains at max, people will be more accustom to finding them and carpooling, bus, whatever.

Not saying it works smoothly, but saying it may be aimed at helping folks understand planning and such, for the reality of population growth but restricted vehicle access.

What if I didn't have one? One cannot easily carpool with a big M/V.
I sure don't like it. It leaves people who paid a whole lot of money for tickets but were unable to score a vehicle pass in a really bad situation.

and totally get that.
I'm not saying it's not painful, but saying it is sort of a way to get people to think in this direction, and learn to plan, well before the percentage of VP's as relates to participants, drops further and further.
So, for instance, if you get a ticket in one of the sales, you'd be damn sure to get a VP with it, yes?
No one can control the aftermarket, though.

Gentlemen, if I may. I agree with both sides, and if they really wanted to encourage carpooling, they would reward it. If you have (as an example) an RV carrying in 8 people, like I did last year, why shouldn't they be allowed in gratis? If you reward positive behavior rather than penalizing all behavior you might end up with a profound positive effect. But of course, the BMOrg would never consider doing something so rational.

The VPs are underpriced though, for a scarcer commodity than tickets. Few people wandered up to Gate last year with unused tickets, but there was a significant amount of VPs. $40 is low enough that people who have unneeded passes aren't super desperate to recapture that cost.

thing is, if indeed BLM, NDOT, etc are and will limit the number of vehicles allowed, and if that number is less than the number of tickets sold, how else can you work it out? The only way to do it is to sell a set number of VP's, and let people sort it out. And, as the event grows but the number of allowed vehicles does not, people will be used to the concept, and just make it work....some will, anyway.
The only other way would be to tell folks to carpool........and then, at some point when the vehicle limit is reached, you just shut the gates.......yeah, that'll work.

My ticket and VP came yesterday! Excited once again.

The 75 mile conduit (road) to BRC can only handle a finite amount of vehicles in a reasonable time frame and thus it is the gating issue that begs for the need for some type of rationing. Thus the VPs. BMORG is really trying to do right by us. Tough problem. Extending Hwy 80 up to BRC might also work, but surely not in my lifetime.

The problem is, this is an event where everyone is supposed to truck in all their own stuff.
Radical self-reliance. I can't carpool. My vehicle IS my camp. And I have to tow the MV in, it's not like the people who bring the big Burning Man infrastructure that makes BRC what is is - MVs, art, and all the materials to build camps - can hitch a ride in the back of someone's minivan.

The low price is an issue. In the overall cost to go to BM, $40 is a tiny drop in the bucket. Most people don't give a rats ass about $40, that has ZERO effect on encouraging carpooling.
The limited supply does, but as was pointed out, the extras people have likely don't end up back in circulation because it's not worth bothering with it.
If I had an extra pass, unless I had a friend who needed it, it would just end up in a drawer somewhere.

I think the problem is the BLM and their artificial caps.
