Aloha Playa peoples! Thought I'd Introduce myself :)

Post by noxtro » Wed Aug 05, 2015 10:24 pm

So here goes,

Born on the island of Curacao, I was fortunate enough to find and be part of an off-playa community upon arriving to Los Angeles. With untold amazing experiences seeded from this amazing group of people; I sought out and came across this forum with a clear intention of seeing if this would be the right place to find my first burning man ticket. As I explored the forum, Its clear there's so much more here. So much of the excitement, characters, and community from the Playa can be felt here. I've learned so much in my few hours of posting, that I wanted to enter the right way and say Hi to everyone!

I'm an avid Djembe player, and general musician (least I like to think ;) ). If anyone is curious... 8) work-side, I'm an app/web developer inspired by an entrepreneurial frame who focuses on intuitive interactions driven by subtle animations, or just generally sweet animations :p I've got a background in VFX with a brief focus on stereoscopic 3D conversion. Which, all pretty much fall in the frame of creative problem solving with a sweet pay off I can enjoy and share. I feel we can get so much further through communities, and so I am always happy to have a random conversation, explore new ideas or concepts and share insights as time permits. :) So don't be a stranger! :)

I can't deny a great breakbeat... just never have been able to ;)

All the elements have fallen into place, including possibly joining the Playa Surfers camp, and so I am focusing my efforts on making this my first burn! I wanted to take a second to recognize the people here before I step away from this.. microphone?... :) I feel I'm going to take some extra time after exploring this forum to think of some of the cool ways I may be able to seed back and enhance someone's experience on the playa. Reading about random Beer or Pizza deliveries has me feeling inspired! (and a bit hungry) :)

Stay cool! ;)

Yep yep! Can't wait. Mostly packed. Just have to get fresh food and the money purge is over for the year.

Thanks Savannah! :)
Appreciate the advice!, just signed up to my regional email group while crossing my fingers :p

@tamarakay, Least you wont have to worry about lugging all that cash around the playa! :P I've been game planning my personal pre-burn prep, and the purge is looking strong this year... :D

Speaking of food, any advice on items which stood out for you in the past? I know that's a highly subjective question, but perhaps you found a particular fondness for ease and function out on the playa. :) (Clearly haven't had breakfast yet and would like to hear about food 8) )

Welcome.
Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

See the food & drink forum! But here are some (very lazy) thoughts.

* If you're bringing a cooler, bottles of liquid Carnation Instant Breakfast is nice. Effortless breakfasting. :)
* Shelf-stable milk like Horizon Farms milk boxes are good. Trader Joe's has their own brand. Chill (if you want) and have on cereal. Chocolate milk actually works as a hydrator with an almost complete list of electrolytes.
* I get terrible Sprite cravings out there, myself. Bring some of your favorite beverages.
* Don't forget caffeine if you're used to it, but be careful not to dehydrate on it (or w/ alcohol, which will hit you harder on playa).
* Consider pickles and other vinegar-y snacks (and a bottle of vinegar to neutralize playa dust on your skin).

* Bring high-protein items in case your appetite drops precipitously and you can only stomach a few bites at a time. This might mean peanut butter, bread, and squirt bottles of jam, it might mean jerky, Clif or Luna bars, vacuum-sealed salmon or sardines and crackers to go with them, canned chicken or turkey, or ravioli, chili, tortillas and indian food, etc. (I do not like to cook on the playa. If you do--feel free to be fancier.)

* Bring fruit juice, fruit cups or dried fruit to help keep regular.

* Don't forget a bottle opener, can opener, trash bags, rubber bands or chip clips, a cup to carry around the city, and utensils and bowls. In fact, carrying around a bowl and utensils in a gallon ziplock bag can make you ready to accept the gift of a meal. :)

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!

Thanks Drawingablank and Elderberry :) :coffee:

@savannah Thank you!! Was reading about playa foot recently also. :|

- had a funny mental image of people rubbing pickles on their skin :p

Looking into some sweet collapsable gear. Definitely game planning hydration as well. With my current trajectory, I'm going to end up looking somewhere between Encino man and a power ranger :)

Happy 8 8 8!

Lemon Juice diluted with water is just as good as vinegar and smells a whole lot better. (DO NOT use lime juice!)

Thanks Elderberry,

I'm thinking lemon juice is a good way to go, I'm into epic hugs and I'm thinking they'd appreciate tearing up naturally as opposed to from a strong hit of vinegar :p That said, if I get the mixture wrong and vinegar works better I may just wave to a lot of people this burn :p

I am a devoted lemon juice user as well, Elderberry. :)

(Although I think vinegar is significantly cheaper.)

They both work, and the smell fades either way.
