Motorcycling to BM

Post by tatonka » Sat Jul 25, 2015 8:51 am

Bringing the bike this year ( truck died ) . Been thinking of stuff I will need , like a small pad of wood for under the kickstand . Im building a trailer for it so I can carry a cooler . I have to practise setting up my buddys tent . Water will be 2 -1 gal jugs for ice in cooler , and 2 -3 gal water cans. Wont have enough for showers but I should be able to wipe myself down. No pedal bike , will half to walk or get one of those greem /yellow bikes. The Harley has new tires and all fluids changed and clean air cleaner, will have to wire up some lights for the trailer tho.
So anything else if ya can think of something ?

If I have anything you need to borrow, or haul out, I can do that.

If your bike has a foam air filter, make sure it's well oiled and bring an extra one that is oiled and ready to go in a plastic bag. If it's a paper filter, see if you can find a foam sleeve that will fit over it and put oil on that. The oil will attract the fine dust out of the air flowing through it.

Tatonka, I'm really trying not to be 'Over preparation camp' this year but we will probably still have 3 of everything. Hit me up if you forgot some important item. (like a flashlight, batteries, drinking cup, bowl, shoelaces, goggles etc...

You may find you have enough water even without being able to haul it in. Ice has a tendency of melting.
I'll have a cart this year for ice hauls, and if I'm not mistaken, you'll be close???

Thanks all , great to know there is water if I need it :) Im going to be near 5 and i by Patsh . Got my list down , need to practise packing after trailer is built.

Going to put bike and tent under my shade tarp , was think about taking this shrink wrap we have for packing at work , and bring a small roll to wrap my bike up in it . But then when I take it off I will have a ball of crap to deal with . So I bagged that but will wrap it in a tarp and I have a air cleaner kit which Ill bring with.
Thanks again ")

Don't forget to license the trailer. One less excuse for LEO...

Looks cool!
How does the hitch work, to keep it upright with the bike and swivel around a turn?

I'm guessing it has to do with the flat box on the end, maybe a plate off the back of the bike and a pin? looks hinged, for up and down, maybe spring loaded?

I have 2 verticle plates I attached to the frame of bike, the rectangle pivots up and down between the brkts , the hitch moves left and right inside the rectangle :) It worked pretty good , I have to make a floor for it and wire some lights out there. Also have to relocate my tailight and blinkers, they are to low and trailer blocks them. I have a sissy bar that is going on , and the new taillight will be on that , on the top :)

Major extra style points for making a one-wheel trailer!!!!
Keeps the whole rig more bike-ish abd less trike-ish.
When you said you were going to make a trailer it didn't occur to me that you could do what you did.

I've got to admit, I'm kinda jealous. I've been wanting to ride my bike to BM for a while now.

I'm giving this a nudge over to the Transportation board, since I think that's a better fit. Sounds like a fun adventure, good luck with the project!

Yes , the Harley is running good , but they run there best on their last day :) It needs a new clutch , but it should work for now. Still have to load trailer and do a test run sometime this week I should be ready.

was going to put the water jugs on the panels right behind the cooler , would fill them s of cedarville. But that would add 48 lbs to the rear of trailer , thought about it and decided to put the water jugs on my bike like saddle bags.
