The Bar 2015 Edition
Re: The Bar 2015 Edition
Afternoon bar!
Well it's 109 today, but I'm done packing except for the food I'm preparing. Sometimes my ocd comes in handy...haha
Looking forward to getting out of here, I need dust!!
Drinks around to finish off the weekend,

Whew, time to open up the windows. Indoors and outdoors have equalized at 87. I'm hoping it drops fast.
My little bucket cooler is doing it part for sitting near to it with indoor air circulating through it. @ 20% humidity.

Down to 85 in my house w the AC on. Damn.
Ok I'm gonna tack this sheet of paper on the bar which reads:
What is the coolest (niftiest?) way to get from Bellingham to sweet home. Avoid 5 thru insane commute Seattle/Portland traffic. He has an appt w Dr Holderdown.
Asking for Rain.
Thanks!

Re: The Bar 2015 Edition
Hit 115 today. finally down to 79 outside but its still 90 inside even with the window open. That's what 1960's insulation will do for ya.
The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at or repair.

Are you asking about ways to get from Bellingham to BRC, avoiding Seattle and Portland?robbidobbs wrote:Down to 85 in my house w the AC on. Damn.

It can be done if you want to go out east on I-90 to Yakima, it's the Wally Route 4 (Googlable).

Re: The Bar 2015 Edition
I place a stout box fan in a window in the middle of the house, blowing in, and open windows at the ends of the house. I double check that the windows in the hall are closed. Thus the fan sucks the cool evening outside air in and pushes the hot afternoon indoor air out. It works splendidly. Poor guy's "whole house fan".MikeGyver wrote:Hit 115 today. finally down to 79 outside but its still 90 inside even with the window open. That's what 1960's insulation will do for ya.

Re: The Bar 2015 Edition
Sometimes we do that but add an "exit fan" at the other end.

The best part...:
I found this box fan in the street a block from my house a couple years ago. Probably fell of a dump load. Just needed a new cord.

If you haven't fixed the cord yet, don't go buying one... I'll bring you a good 18AWG cord (with 3 prong plug) to your camp!

Re: The Bar 2015 Edition
Oddly, you get higher CFM if you have the fan(s) moving hot air out of the house. With the fan in a window blowing out, close all windows except the the one furthest from the door in the room you want to cool (first). Work your way from room to room, usually starting with the bedrooms. Once the targeted room have all had a cooling, you can have them all open to share in the continued benefit. Added benefit in that if you leave it running all night (usual crime rules apply), the fan noise is away from the bedroom(s). Some put that exhaust fan blowing the house air up through the access hatch into the roof above the insulation, so it removes that hot air from above the rooms and cools the roof too, while it's drawing in cool outside air into the rooms.Elliot wrote:I place a stout box fan in a window ... blowing in, and open windows at the ends of the house. ... the fan sucks the cool evening outside air in and pushes the hot afternoon indoor air out. ...MikeGyver wrote:Hit 115 today. finally down to 79 outside but its still 90 inside even with the window open....

Re: The Bar 2015 Edition
During this time of year it's a mix of excitement and anxiety. Excitement because it's coming up so soon, and anxiety because I still have so much to finish doing to be ready to go. At times I'm envious of those who are 100% excited, but then I realize I get the most enjoyment from making and doing stuff for the desert. So as convoluted as it may be, I'll take it. One week left for me - time to get crackin!

I'll start my cooking and freezing for the burn in a day or so.
Today is a late start at work day. 12-8 I'm presenting to all the bus drivers in town this week after their shifts as part of their safety meetings. Service animals, the ADA regulations. Hope there's no dickheads...

115 on my porch! Da Fug!
Ok kids, drink at least gallon of water every day. I just bought ice, took me two places to find it. But it was nice in the AC.
I realized while driving around in 115 (I have a thermometer in my car) that I will be better acclimated this year than I have since 2001 when I worked at the Work Ranch pre event.
Silver linings.

Re: The Bar 2015 Edition
I love having the current temp of black rock city on my phone. Looking at the BRC temp being lower than it is here is awfully satisfying.
