Thank you Z. Sumatra is good stuff.
They tell me the frame is not bent, nor is the cab door frames... only about $2300 in damages. That's all
I'm driving by the same area this morning and there is a doe lying in the road right where I hit the buck. Just insane how many deer get ran down around here, not to mention all the other creatures.
Bummer.

Since deer are undergoing a population boom, well I'm okay with their deaths, if not their suffering.
My grandmother killed a giant wild boar in post WWII germany. When meat was precious. Of course, by that time she was a well fed american and didn't realize that it was precious.

Tony. what part of the country do you live in? We have a crazy deer pop. problem here, especiallly after the acorns fall (their fav. food). Obvie, the result of cowards killing all the natural predators here (Mtn. lion, bear, etc.) The Mtn lions are also making a comeback, but public hysteria causes every one seen to be hunted down and killed. The boar (a non-native species here in Cali) run rampant, they too feed on the acorns and cause much damage to the land (rutting/erosion). I have found cattle carcasses that were stripped clean, inside and out in one night of wild boar activity, I mean the bones were polished. They do kill the cattle, but sure feed when the gettin' is good! They will eat almost anything, they are active day and night. Boar are the only animal I hunt (I am too much of an animal lover), the large boar are not good eating, but a 125 lb. sow is better ham, ribs and other cuts than you can buy in any store. Cooked in the ground, even better! The local golf course owners have a bounty on them as they will destroy a hole in one night , turning over the grass with their capable "shovel" snouts, rooting for food. We use dogs to bay them up and kill them with knives...guns are too risky with the dogs, but the pigs are very dangerous and you'd better know what you are doing or you might find yourself in a fix!

I've seen a deer hit and not killed, and left for dead, blood foaming out of its mouth and notrils. It is not a pretty thing... what are you going to do bash it over the head with a rock... or suffocate it with a plastic bag?theCryptofishist wrote:Since deer are undergoing a population boom, well I'm okay with their deaths, if not their suffering.

So I am not okay with any animal suffering. But this one I hit, well, I guarantee he didn't suffer.
The problem is that we are encroaching on their habitat and there are very few hunters in California these days.

When I was younger, I despised all the hunting that goes on around here, Arkansas, thinking it was a very cruel indulgence of a twisted human desire to kill.
Now that I'm a bit wiser, I see how the natural balance has been altered and understand the need to curb animal populations. We are the top of the food chain, whether we like it or not.
Deer meat sure is tasty! I can imagine a wild boar being the same.

calicowboy925...
I live in the Sierra Foothills between Sacramento and Tahoe near Auburn. It's pretty bad here for deer. And it's the same about the natural preditors. A couple of years ago a mt. lion ran down, and partially ate a jogger right up the road, and now they are public enemy number one. All it takes are tracks and vigilants are out in drives.

And then you'll need another cup... unfortunately the second time it only lasts for about 13 minutes and 22 seconds. (Tolerance)
Me, I'm visiting with family. We already had T-Day on Sunday as well, so I am just about ready to put this holiday out of its misery.
And then tomorrow the nightmare really begins. It's like an instant slow fest around here for the next 45 days.

By the way, you're up early. How's the sunrise looking to be today?
