The myth of "room in an RV"

I've been reading the many posts of people looking for room in an RV, or willing to share room in an RV.

Where is this mystical "room" coming from? Our camp just had our packing party, and my RV is stuffed to the weight limit (or will be when I pick up my fly-in passengers and their food/water purchases at Reno), and it's not a small RV (nor is it the only vehicle hauling our stuff to the playa).

If you find any room, please send some my way.

My guess is that most of these offers are made by people who
1) are not familiar with RVs or
2) have never been to the playa or
(even worse)
3) both.

I've shared RVs out there, but only with people ( 1 or 2) that I knew well;
and we always had outboard tents for gear storage and/or private sleeping quarters.

I can't even imagine putting 6 people in an RV that 'sleeps six' (hahaha)
much less sharing close quarters with random internet folks.

And I'm super easy to get along with!

There's no fucking way in hell I'd invite strangers to stay in a rented RV that I was liable for. And since that also gives the total strangers who have no experience with RVs full access to your water supply and drain tanks, there are just no limits to the opportunities for disaster, er, uh, fun.

Indeed. I've been RV'ing since I was 4 years old, and we actually can pack 8 family members in an 8-person RV. But we've all grown up knowing the rules of how to live in an RV and how to use it correctly (and there are no sparkleponies). Out on the playa, when I leave my RV, the door is going to be locked.

Let me all clue ya'll 'Merkians a bit about cultcha outside this continent, esspacially Europeans.

In most of the world, this whole concept of personal space, comfort and "I got my rights"! mentality just don't really exist in any significant scope.

'Matter o' fact, most of the world thinks us Yanks gotta splintered 2 x 4 shoved up our arse so deep, we would simple bleed out if someone removed it.

So, there is plenty folks in the world don't mind packing 8 people in a 6-person RV. Family Style ain't a bad thing if ya ain't all hung up.

In the good ol US of A, rave kids tend to be more accepting of increased intimacy in these situations as well. A cuddle puddle is a cuddle puddle with or without the 120dB baseline. Seen plenty folks have a great time in a cramped RV.

But, we are what we are, so these freaks gotta be doing it wrong.

I'm there with you Token. It is truly an American thing. However, being an American, it's my thing and I'm happy about it!

That said; The 1100 sqft Townhouse next to mine was just sold. It was purchased by 3 Indian couples. They seem perfectly happy crammed into a house that I feel is too small for myself and my two kids (10 & . I'm certain they could share a 6 person tent and be happy. I sleep in a 4 person tent all by my onesies, and it's a bit too small for me.

feel free to categorize me as a bourgie space hogging American princess because that sort of shared close quarters is truly the stuff of nightmares for me.

i did a ride share of 3 people in a six person RV and i'm VERY surprised that one or two bodies were not buried in the desert between reno and phoenix that year. no way in fuck could i live in an RV with 5 other people for a week.

Too many people in too small a space, too much for the water supply that one of them will waste anyway... so why waste all that money on a big American RV then?

I figure it's a mix of extreme novice and seasoned veteran.

To the novice who has never camped in one, no words can describe how little 'room' there is
To seasoned RV camping veteran, no words are necessary.

It's not something I'm really interested in, but some people really take to the experience and keep on doing it year after year. If it works for them and they're happy, hooray.

One of my friends has a 6 person trailer with 1 "master bedroom" + 1 fold out double bed in dining/kitchen area + 2 claustrophobic, narrow top/bottom bunks near the bathroom. The bunks are sized pretty much for kids.

Six people in it would be pretty difficult--they could all sleep in there at once, technically, but they couldn't move around easily (especially when the double bed is folded out) or keep all of their possessions inside.

3 (maybe 4) could manage it if they were thoughtful and easy-going.

It's a lot like the myth of the 4 person (or 6 person) tent.

That touches on another point: Most RVs are designed for one couple and a few kids. Second and third beds are generally the kitchen dinette and the couch, usually folding out in such a way as to block up the cabin.

I bring an 11.5-foot truck camper, biggest they make but still small by RV standards. (Campers are measured in floor length, not including the over-the-cab bed)
It technically sleeps SIX!! The dinette becomes a bed that blocks the entry and bathroom doors, and there's the usual fold-down bunk above it. Neither are long enough for me to lie on without bending up a bit, and the overhead is definitely small people or kids sized.
The overhead bed is larger than queen size, so you could put three or four friendly people there... then it sleeps eight!

Fuck, I'm missing out on friendship and camaraderie, and money too! Are there six chill, open minded, easy-going burners who want to chip in for fuel and stay in the Taj Majal (as my friends at home call it)? Preferably attractive females, and OK maybe a hot guy or two for the First Mate. Cuz it's gonna be so tight in there, sex won't be an option, there just won't be anywhere else to put everything.
