Shurafa - there have been cases where mods have edited a user's post well past the deadline to update incorrect information. In your example, I would politely ask a mod via PM to update my old post for me. They're busy folks, though, especially in the days leading up to the burn.

With an edit button I would be deprived the fun of re-reading what all the plug and play enablers called me before they realized which way the wind blowed.

Though most of them can still edit posts......

You can always post updated and additional information as a reply. If you've got a legitimate need to make an edit (didn't catch the typo on the day, date, time, or something) until later, you can flag your post and then choose Other as the reason, and enter the details of your edit request. An available moderator will review and make the change if possible.

Thank you for the history lesson, Kinetik. I do sometimes get annoyed with the no edit, but the reasons for it make a lot of sense. At least we have the little blush emoticon!
