We need a place to stay

Post by Claudiadalhoumi » Sun Aug 23, 2015 9:11 pm

My husband and I are looking for anyone who has an RV and would like to share it. We are in our late 30s. We will be flying to Reno from San Diego Wednesday eve. We'll drive to BM Th and stay until Sunday. We'll need a place to stay for three nights. Please let me know if you are interested. Thank you,

Just to be clear: you're looking for space in an RV on-playa for those dates? How will you meet your other needs, like food, water, etc.?
When he lights his streetlamp, it is as if he brought one more star to life, or one flower.
When he puts out his lamp, he sends the flower, or the star, to sleep.
That is a beautiful occupation.

We will be renting a car to drive from Reno. We will bring water and food and are happy to bring extra if you need. We are looking for space to stay in an RV and will be happy to pay for the three nights. Please let us know if you are interested and how much you would charge us. Thank you. Claudia

Ya better bring a tent. Good luck finding someone.

I'm flying in on Wednesday, and am looking for an RV, water, food, booze, costumes, shade, showers and hot chicks. No camp dues! This post is my stab at Radical Self-reliance. Stop being so mean!

Why the sarcasm? Burning Man is the normal kind of vacation spot where you just show up and rent accommodations.
Isn't it?!

Well, at least they haven't caught any electronics on fire this week, so they're ahead of me.

By the way, what's your plan to haul that water back off the playa after it becomes dirty drain water?
Hey I know, use it to put out Uncle Sticky's camp! :)

At Burning Man, there's a thing called the Survival Guide. It's required reading for all burners. You should read it, it's on the main website.
What you need is to plan how you will take care of yourself in the middle of a desert, before deciding to go there!

When you get to the playa be sure to look up, what you see is the big open wonderful sky.
Your place to stay will be underneath it.

Ignore the snarkers. There are lots of good options if you just know where to look:

- The good folks over at Thunderdome often take-in strays. You might look them up.
- The BRC Department of Public Works (DPW) is also famous for having a soft heart. Lots of room over there and they may not even charge you for it. They'll also feed you in the commissary if you ask nicely.
- Then there is Barbie Death Camp. Our own eplayan Doc Pyro has an RV and is generally happy to share.

The dreaded festival hippies sleep in Center Camp.

People spend a year planning their supplies and camps, as well as reading everything in sight and asking clarifying questions that show they have done their homework. Meet their regionals in person. What's on your packing list? This is not Airbnb. Really, you are going to share an RV with strangers? Probably one of those ones that sleep 8 might have space. And a plus if they are poly.

You should sell your ticket and take a one year time out.

Lettuce be cereal for a minute.... it's probably easiest to just show up and ask someone in an RV that's parked in a location you like. Without knowing where you want to camp, it'll be hard for someone in an RV to know if they'll be the right fit for you. Burning Man is all about gifting, but folks with RV's need to make sure they can meet your needs. The easiest way is to probably look up the placement map and find an RV that's parked in one of the shaded areas. The shaded area denotes the spots that primarily focus on gifting to others. There should be plenty of RVs with space to share.

I usually drive 2 RV's in, one spare just in case some really cool people show up unprepared.

Technically the shaded areas on the map are the spots with DPW provided shade. It goes fast so be quick about it.

If the shade isn't up, just head over to the DPW camp and ask them to get to work on it. DPW are the original playa sherpas and they will be glad to serve you day or night for breakfast, lunch or dinner!

Come on now, they were originally intended to be the hospitality staff, but they've evolved into doing a lot of maintenance and center camp setup.
They are still supposed to serve meals to any participants, especially new ones, and they do provide shade, but at least be polite when you go over there.
