Nothing new here. FBI will send a team to any large-scale event. They've been doing it for years. They don't ever do much, which is why the "locals" refer to them as "Famous, But Incompetent." I think they're just there so if there is some sort of incident the FBI Director can say "we were there."

Probably dates back to the days when J. Edgar wanted his dirty little hands in everyone else's business.

Von Bacon called it. I've worked events for years. The same agencies are at Suoer Bowls, College Bowl games, World Cup matches, Final Four... Any big event draws a similar law enforcement presence. This is a non-issue. If we want them to go away, just make the event smaller

I'm trying to get someone interested in bringing an air traffic control radar for "training purposes only", doing something useful, rather than useless and annoying. Interesting standard practice even with unlimited budgets is to do exactly what the BM airport Unicom does. We have some interesting discussions on projecting infrastructure into nothingness to meet real needs, rather than the opposite.

Yeah, at first I thought the choppy noise was just the sound-camps getting lazy with the beats, but then I saw the big boxy twin rotor helicopter in the evening haze over on the 10'oclock side.

I'm thinking if the BLM was contracting for Choco Tacos, can you imagine what frozen treats the G-Men are stocking their freezers with that we never even heard of?

The Black Rock Intergalactic Spaceport is only open daylight, excepting medical emergency. So that leaves plenty of opportunities for black helicopters! And lighted runways would go swimmingly with radar air traffic control.

I've said it before, Fallon NAS is just spittin' distance away, and our event is off limits to them. They do exercises all the time, no need to wonder why the flyboys make a flight plan which, oh golly, goes over the playa. Humans being curious humans, just with access to high tech. Fuckin' Navy pilots love them some boobies. Even at supersonic speeds (but really, they buzz the playa when empty too, it is a great training area).

The helicopter was a nice touch. Maybe some reservists have caught on and do their active training over labor day now.
