WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE INTERNET RADIO STATIONS?
I like recording shows like Art Bell's Coast to Coast to listen to later on my mp3 player later from http://www.khow.com, and John and Ken (sometimes- other times they're a little much) from http://www.KFI640.com, although I've used Armstrong and Getty at http://www.talk650kste.com as a vacation from them, they attack news and politics in a humorous way, kind of like the Daily Show.
I thought if we shared our fave links here, it would save us a lot of slogging through dross when our local talk radio is serving up crap like food shows or movie fan jabber or Dr. Laura (what a bitch!).
Not to mention cool music. And the priceless experience of getting recommendations from some highly intelligent and eccentric people.
Who knows, if oddball, non-mainstream shows' net broadcasts jump in popularity, it might even affect the robotic programming schedule we see now.
I'm pretty sure I won't agree or like everything posted here, but it should be pretty interesting to see what develops...

BTW, KCRW streaming out of LA is arguably the best radio station in the country for hearing the newest/latest. Radio One in England does a good job of reportage' for that side of the pond.

Truth is that most of what I know about stream broadcasting comes from the core list of stations that are part of the iTunes software (PC and Mac).
With iTunes you can stream and using RadioLover you can actually record an entire show to a MP3 file. Find a decent sound editor such as Reason or Jam and then cut out the annoying DJ and the commercials.

I use a little ap called Audio Hijack on my OS X machine. Gotta love the name.
Thing is, I have bought FAR MORE music since I began recording mp3s from the radio streams. There is no way in hell that I could have tracked down half the stuff I buy without listening to it a few times then consulting the playlists. Changed my life it did. Yep.

A good station is http://www.kboo.org it is a Portland Community station and one of the oldest in the nation. It can be hit and miss but that is only because they cover so much of the community.

Yeah yeah, I know, now you probably think you've got me pigeon-holed as a conspiracy nut with tinfoil on my head, but if you want REAL news reportage on things like how bad the mad cow disease problem really is or could be, or gulf war syndrome, or how our country's been hijacked by electronic voting machines or why hydrogen cars are nothing more than a public relations gimmick to distract people away from the impending peak oil/oil shortage, then Art Bell's show is the only one I know of that does that.Badger wrote:Dude, that explains so much. If you know of another one, I'd love to hear about it.
I suspect the only reason Bell's allowed to get away with it is precisely because he also interviews people who put forward theories like the hollow earth, vampires, etc.
Part of the fun is trying to figure out when Bell thinks his interviewee may be a little kooky. I have to give him credit, he keeps a VERY straight radio "face" as it were as he interviews most guests. It's the very rare exception where you can easily tell he thinks his guest may be calling from a rubber room or his parent's basement.
And the tinfoil actually makes the mind-control satellite beams stronger, so I don't wear one anymore.

Trance and Vocal Trance are my two favorite channels. But the others are pretty good too.

I really like http://www.kpfk.org/- Sunday night latin house music is great. Other than that I just go to Groove Salad or Funky Monkey on winamp. But mostly I listen to CBC (www.cbc.ca)- all day long.
Our local co-op radio station- http://kootenaycoopradio.com/ is good. And if you tune in every other Wednesday (next one Dec. 8) at about 8:10/8:15 am you can listen to me chatting about food!

This is UC Davis's radio station. You can listen to streaming casts or download specific DJ sets. I really enjoy the diverse music/public affairs programming and I am pretty much a captive when I am in my car. (at least until I get my tape player fixed or decide to upgrade to a MP3 or CD player)

I am a bit tied up at the moment...but if you leave your name and number.....
There's a cool sony mp3 playing unit at Best Buy right now for about $150, and this one will fast-forward through mp3s, something my old one didn't do. Also has a front input for plugging in ipods or other stuff.SilkenTofu wrote:I am pretty much a captive when I am in my car. Anyone have any idea what the ETA is on being able to listen to net radio in your car is?

Proving that my tastes are all over the map:
http://www.secondshifters.com/ - Radio that bites...hard.
http://www.filk.com/ - your #1 source of filk music and song parodies with information, history, shopping, cds, song database, links and just plain fun.
http://coverunner.tripod.com/ - sailing and ocean tunes, Folk/Rock/Reggae music, new local songwriters and bands. My station of choice when I'm playing PuzzlePirates.
http://www.starstreams.com/ - ambient, dub, exotic electronica.
http://www.club80s.com/ - extended 12" mixes, new remixed versions, cover versions, live versions, post 80s releases (from New Wave artists), and 80s related or inspired artists.
And believe me, I'm barely scratching the surface of what I've got bookmarked.... But these are the ones I keep coming back to.
