2016 One Item A Day For BM List....

2 piles of stuff are on tarps in the front lawn. 1 pile is stuff I actually used. 1 pile is stuff I took but did not use. all is dusty. Next job is inventory. Light rain last night gave everything freckles.
I'm still butt hurt, the playa kicked my ass this year. I am tempted just to roll up the tarps, save one to throw into the pickup next year and roll up the other to sort out...whenever.
Golf cart battery gave me fits all week. Thank you, Electroshock Therapy Camp for the recharges...Time to replace that ancient battery and/or get spare batteries.
Since I could not give rides, I played the clown this year. Retro red polka dot jumpsuit from Kostume Kult, painted red nose from random face painter. Thanks to both, many newbie selfies this year, I did not mind...I was an evil old clown with natural fright wig and beard...Booga Booga!

Re: 2016 One Item A Day For BM List....
Posted our mutant vehicle on Craigslist. Spent 9 months building it so we could enjoy it for 5 days. Hmm....yep, that sounds about right. That's Burning Man for ya.
Also in a rare change of typical "One Item A Day" plans, I am not adding things to my 2016 BM prep list, but removing. No more playa beds. No more huge shade structure. Which mean significantly less pillows and cushions and solar lighting to pack up. Just my wife, the RV, bikes and visiting friends for 2016.
I am hoping all this stuff I am parting with will end up on some new burners "One Item A Day" list and the cycle will continue.

I've done so much for next year it would be a long list. Gave away tons of unused burner stuff. Got a BIG hinged tub for our kitchen, clearance solar lights at target, 2 propane lanterns at a garage sale and sorted into 3 piles. Keep, gift and donate. Oh, I I bought a junky cruiser just to get the whitewalls. $5. Next year was better.

Re: 2016 One Item A Day For BM List....
Yesterday, I ordered a new tent... Playa got the best of the old one this time.
Can't wait to try it out at the Decom coming up (8 to 11 Oct.) !!
This one's modular, in that it can be all one (large) room, or have a bit of a 'porchy' area, shaded and out of the wind. Looks like I'll be able to stand up in it, too. Plus, it was on sale! (Thanks, Yggy, for the link!!)
In other 'one item a day' news, I'm still in the very slow and tedious process of cleaning/sorting/re-packing all the dusty things... today was the North Pole Shade hung over the flagpole (retractable) and hosed off thoroughly. There's now a big beige spot around the flagpole. One moccasin got cleaned too.
Slow, but sure.

I booked the RV for next year and managed to get everything from this year cleaned and organized in bins in the basement. Lots of other ideas floating around about things to build, acquire, etc. but no action yet. Need to let the voices in my head sort out which ideas will stick.

I got a teeny, tiny, one mantle propane lantern for my camp mate. She's a bit of a minimalist due to the size of her car. She'll have propane for her stove. It's so cute.

That looks like great big fun. If you figure out how to do it without bodily injury, (or with burning hair, singed skin and flaming clothes), let us know where/when we can come watch.

Hell yes it's fun! I've experienced just about all of the above unfortunately, but nothing serious :p. Our part of the camp's budget is due by tomorrow, so we're hashing out which purchases are truly necessities and which are in the "nice to have" category.
Also, purchased a second set of juggling clubs as an xmas gift to ourselves. Now we can practice passing clubs between us.

The dollar store put all the Christmas items on sale for 25 cents. I bought more solar stake lights than I can use in a lifetime.

First test assembly of Trike 2.0 (FatTrike 1.0) this weekend. Wheels went together relatively easily. Need to work out how to mount the gear hub now.

I'm streamlining this year or that would absolutely be on my list. Just my regular fat tire in 2016.

I still have my pile from last year that didn't get used after I crashed my motorcycle and couldn't make the burn. I'm on a budget this year so I'm not going to bring as much booze or extra crap I never use anyway. I'm actually ready to go right now.

Ouch, but glad you survived it and are raring to go this year.
I just finished my camp's main planning document (or 'PDF of Doom' as I call it). I also just received a new tophat that was ordered last week.

Pretty much all clothing projects and purchases are things that are used on and off the playa pretty interchangeably. So while it wasn't really for Burning Man, it wasn't NOT for Burning Man either

This purchase is definitely NOT for Burning Man. But the first place I used it was for eplaya. My boss got me a smart phone. Of course I hate it and miss my dumb old dinosaur. Now I'm off to learn.......

Most excellent trike. I'm not too far behind you with mine. Had a minor malfunction with the rear axle that a bit of machining should fix this weekend and then it should be ready for the test ride before painting.melodiousdirge wrote:First test assembly of Trike 2.0 (FatTrike 1.0) this weekend. In other news, sent in camp dues earlier this week. I've also come up with a preliminary design for what I want to gift this year. Won't start producing them until I've secured a ticket.

Diggin' the top hat, at least what I can see of it in the photo. From whom did you order it? I prefer to shop local, but I've not been able to find any good resources up here in New England. All pretty traditional stuff around here.trilobyte wrote:I also just received a new tophat that was ordered last week.

Well it will be a miracle if I get to BM this year. Still starting over in life here. I am going to 2 burns locally this year, which living in Georgia is much easier for me to do money and time wise. If I get to the desert this year I'll be happy as hell! But in the meantime, I need to get ready locally as well and I love seeing everyone's preparations.
All that being said.....today I need to write a list of what I need to do be ready for the burns.

Today I checked my email for anything from BORG regarding tickets. Nothing yet so I checked it again. I didn't see any email about tickets yet so I checked it again.
I also browsed all of the local online venues for things I don't need to buy but want to anyway. I didn't buy anything.
I day dreamed for a while.
I checked my email again, then the ticket website for BORG.
I followed up with visiting eplaya and crossing my fingers that something here would make me feel better.
I looked outside and wondered what all of this rain on the US West cost will do to the playa for 2016.
I checked my email again... just in case I missed something.

Deep breaths, cricket, the announcement will go out when it goes out. And there will likely be plenty of lead time between when the news goes out and when any registration stuff happens, it wouldn't be "here's the info, they're on sale NOW!" or some other heart-attack inducing thing.
Raoul, the place I got it from also happens to be a local-tastic joint. The main company is called Head'n Home Hats, they're from the Santa Cruz area. I connected with their work at a local shop several years ago, then followed along excitedly as they started turning up at things like the Edwardian Ball and Maker Faire, and since then they've expanded and created a separate sub-brand called Steampunk Hatter.
I remembered that on my gas generator's extended run tank setup, I had some little gasket fail on me last year. Either just from years of use or not being as fuel friendly as it should be... without a great seal, the extended run tank wasn't always working the way I'd like. Anyhow, remembering that, I thought to bring the cap and get a bunch of replacement gaskets to have on hand. Sometimes it's the little things...
