I want to be among the first to swim some laps in Harbin's excellent 60 foot pool as soon as they can get it open.

And I will relay good wishes to Ron. He has received plenty clothing, and he has the option staying in my spare room. His main concern now is his hope of finding his absolutely lovely dog "Zelda" alive.

Good night, Bar peeps.

Thank you, yes, the (misnamed) Valley Fire is looking much better. It is no longer spreading significantly, and cool weather is helping firefighters gain control. Large areas are still evacuated, with thousands of homes still listed as threatened, but the danger appears to be low now.

In related news....

Image

Royce Sterling Moore, 26, of Lakeport, CA, was arrested Tuesday as he attempted to enter the evacuated Cobb Mountain area while carrying burglary tools. Moore already had two warrants out for his arrest, and he was also carrying items related to the use of methamphetamine.

Three cheers and a tiger for the Lake County Sheriff's Deputies who spotted this scumbag!

Lake County News routinely publishes mugshots of recent arrestees. This guy looks handsome and wise compared to many of the others! But looting a disaster area is about as low as a man can go.

Did y'all know there are people out there that think sparkle pony is a positive term?

CO! I was sorry to miss hugging your neck. Did you lose a silver cup?

Missed you as well!

I loaned a cup to a village mate that never came back. Silver, paracord on the handle, clear bottom, HWJTAS sticker on it.

Nope, solid silver with an elder wrong sticker but he says not his. Something about his being red like the blood he drinks.
I seriously love you guys lol
Excellent, looks like I own a cool new cup.

I'm putting up a special thank-you shout-out to Cleopatra Jones, with whom I had a wonderful lengthy conversation about police militarization and the overuse of authority, both of which we agree have no place in law enforcement. So,

THANK YOU! I enjoyed meeting you, and I hope to run into you again at the burn.

The fire did not grow overnight, so things are looking up. Officials are worried about hot weather this weekend, though.

My camp-mate Ron still has not been able to see his burned-down house. But he refuses to give up hope for his beloved dog -- an aging black Labrador sort'of mix named Zelda.

The one on the left looks as though he may have had a tough burn this year, maybe he was trying to recoup his loses from the $1200 stubhub ticket he had to have...

A previous established acquaintance of the Lake County Sheriff’s Department, one Jeremiah Patrick McGinnis, 25, of Cobb Mountain, was evacuated with his neighbors as the Valley Fire approached this idyllic and mostly close-knit community.

A few days later, McGinnis returned unannounced, for the purpose of burglarizing his neighbors’ homes.

His first score was a car. He then adorned the car with black and white paint to resemble a police car, so he could travel unchallenged in the evacuated area.

How this ruse failed is not fully understood.

The sad thing is… that McGinnis is currently better housed than many of his neighbors.

I read the story just to confirm what didn't really need further confirmation: drugs were involved.

*saunters thru swinging doors, still a bit bleary-eyed from 11 hours solid sleep*

Well folks, the trailer is back home in Clearlake and all is well.

But one more freaky thing happened in the process:

As we approached Reno on Sunday morning, we were greeted by overhead electronic reader boards saying “Crash 35 miles ahead. I-80 closed.”

In Reno, the signs said 25 miles ahead.

25 miles east of Reno is… Wadsworth.

Today I read that a trucker made a mistake which killed his co-driver and blocked the eastbound lanes for several hours. At mile marker 41.

“My” rest area is at mile marker 42.

Right about the time I returned to the scene of my crime.
