Plug 'n Play address that some people know of was all red. What a surprise.

Re: 2015 Moop Map
Is there a higher res version available yet where you can actually read the theme camp names? Just my own morbid curiosity.
A plan is what you vary from.

Re: 2015 Moop Map
It hurts my heart to see the moop map. Not because of anything to do with LNT. It is glaringly evident that the Org. wants everyone to join a camp. Each year they dedicate more space to placed camps and push individual campers farther out. It's a shame.

Re: 2015 Moop Map
I'm not sure whether more space is being allocated for theme camps because the BMORG wants everyone to join one, or if it's because more theme camps are forming and applying for placement? My thinking at this point in time is that it's the latter reason.Ratty wrote:It hurts my heart to see the moop map. Not because of anything to do with LNT. And, with the ticket shortage, having a well thought out theme camp with lots of open activities is good for both BMORG and the people that are members of the camp, as it helps with getting tickets.
And it would then follow that theme camps would be placed closer in as it's the activity of the theme camp that provides most of the activities and things to see. Of course, I could be wrong, but that's just how it appears to me.

Not pretty.
I'm green but I'm happier that the birgin camps around me also did well. Some others..... not so much.

Day 3 is out:
http://blog.burningman.com/2015/09/tenp ... ing-piano/
The strip along esplanade from 10 to 9 is interesting. Red closest to the street, then yellow, then green in the "private" parts of those camps. I'm wondering if parts of that is because by the end of the week the boundary between Esplanade and the camps is pretty fudged, and it's hard for the people camping there to know what is their responsibility and what is the "public street"?

We are not looking very good this year. In past years, it was rare to see a yellow or God forbid a red splotch.

Here's the final 2014 map for reference:
http://blog.burningman.com/2014/10/envi ... ise-again/
What the heck happened on Esplanade this year? I think Opulent Temple has a pretty good case to get their placement back next year, assuming they want to come back.

Re: 2015 Moop Map
As disappointing as the MOOP map looks so far, I just want to state that I am so utterly un-surprised that, so far, every single PnP/turnkey camp that I've known about has gotten yellow or red, entirely. Not a single green PnP/Turnkey that I know of, as of yet. I could have missed one, but I have a pretty exhaustive list I think.
Tee-hee. They sure do well at keeping up with the principals.
And seriously - if you have a professional cleanup crew and nearly the entire camp is RVs or nicer set-ups, how do you get yellow or red? Come on...

Re: 2015 Moop Map
This is a fuckin' disgrace so far on the 9 side. I know our camp did a "over and above" job on our entire camp, including the roadway adjacent to our camp... which is the minimum any camp should do. The fact that I'm saying this like it's something to brag about is fuckin' Ludacris!
The red line on the inside it the roadway.. these camps seem to think they're mooping assignment ends at their property boundary, which is not the case. And what fuckin plug and play camp was at the outer edge of 715? My regional just overtook burning man as my favorite festival.

Re: 2015 Moop Map
This is the worst that my camp has ever done. We swept around through the dunes with our feet, but there had to be stuff buried in there. In some places we had 8-12" of fluffy, soft powder over the hardened playa surface. A landscape rake would have done wonders.
Sooner or later, it will get real strange...

Re: 2015 Moop Map
Rakes really do bring up a ton of stuff you never knew existed. We rake our camp after doing our line sweeps and it always turns up tons of tiny things, like ziptie bits or plastic wrapping. Wish we had a magnetic rake, though...
Our camp did some custom stakes this year. Turns out, when we hit them with a hammer, tons of tiny steel shavings would flake off that we didn't notice while we played with them in dirt and concrete, but tiny black shavings were glaringly obvious on tan playa. We ended up taking home a few bags worth of playa this year. A magnetic rake would have been great, I think.
I'm really nervous because after four years of green I fear I might get my first yellow due to those stakes.

Re: 2015 Moop Map
Fortunately this bit of way out of place showed up late-Monday but left without me having to resort to a rake.
He came up, dropped his sarong, put his arm around me...
But I checked my watch and going by my calendar the event had ended.
I offered him water and loaded up the rest of the truck while he sat and drew circles in the dust.
He wandered off before I left. But this might explain if there is a yellow spot in my camp where he sat.

By the looks of that corduroy, you possessed a landscape rake. Doing it right! Will add my rake to the pile next year...

The rake was deployed under the jurisdiction and leadership of Just-Joe. He organized a systematic thorough sweep and rake for the larger area, but I was/am responsible for my little patch of heaven. I bought a plastic beach rake for myself though that wasn't a real good match for some of the little dunes and rough patches, so I will be upgrading in the future.

Re: 2015 Moop Map
Same story for our camp. We worked really, really hard for hours on end raking every square foot of our camp. Everything looked extremely de-mooped when we left, yet we still ended up with a small red blotch (the rest was green). I think that the extra wind and resulting dust piles made it more difficult to find moop. Wind patterns after we left must have uncovered something buried in the dust or blown someone else's moop onto our site. Next year we will bring hard rakes and a magnet rake.Lonesomebri wrote:I bought a plastic beach rake for myself though that wasn't a real good match for some of the little dunes and rough patches, so I will be upgrading in the future.

Just another reason not to trust the government.
Re: 2015 Moop Map
To those that think inside camp lines are all they are responsible for, fuck you. I moop the entire road from my camp to across the street. I also pick up on every walk to the portos and back. I have pulled tent stakes and rebar from other camps around us that I have come upon. This year a campmate took SOMEONE else's PEE jar to the portos and emptied them AND took the jars home to trash!
I am not saying esplanade camps didn't try!!! I am just saying EVERYONE should do more than their own camp. In fact I am quite certain the survival guide calls out for participants to moop public areas for a few hours.
This year we had a couple of virgins from New Mexico that camped in a vacant spot next to us, that apparently missed the memo on demooping. Campmates and I spent at least an hour picking up wilted lettuce and sequins left in the dunes of their camp. Glad we did that! Our area of the block is green green green!
