Music that thankfully never makes it to the playa
I think it's about time I started a list of songs that I've never heard at Burning Man but hear at least 30 times per day. God I love living in Office Space. Bonus points if you can't even figure out what the song says.
"halfway there; livin on a plane"
"tainted love; don't hear me please"

I carpooled a bit with a lady who's favorite song was the Muzak version of Leaving on a Jetplane. No kidding. Her week was hell. I made her listen to bones, thugs and harmony.

I remember "grocery store muzak" as a kid....and hating it. I've noticed now that even though it's still "muzak", the grocery stores are playing actual songs from my youth/young adulthood and I have been caught dancing/singing along in the aisles... It's all a ploy....

I thought 2015 sounded better than the last few years. I think we hit "maximum dubstep" in 2014. 2015 had much more live music and a strange kind of electro-swing and gypsy band kind'o'music. Say what you will but at least it was different!TT120 wrote:EDM.

So you probably won't like my Kenny G elevator music theme camp I am planning? You'll have your choice of interactive environments in which to enjoy the mellow tunes: Elevator, Dental Chair, Automated Phone Tree holding chamber purgatory.... etc.

Having personally dealt with Mister K. Gorelick before, I'll take the dental chair in the elevator with the Automated Phone Tree. And not just because of the noise, er, music he makes.happydragon wrote:So you probably won't like my Kenny G elevator music theme camp I am planning? Re: Music that thankfully never makes it to the playa
I bought an mp3 player that would run off an sd card for the Burn, which I loaded up with a bunch of my favorite music of all kinds. I figured out later that it wouldn't play randomly, and only played in order of the albums I added. Every time I needed to skip a track I had to hold down the button for a few seconds. I later realized that adding all the Radiohead albums is way too depressing to play at Burning Man, and it takes too long to go thru every song individually. We had to switch to another a music source for our yurt party.
Next time I will make a specific memory card of just party music. Radiohead is definitely not party music.

Just take it to a party where everyone's on k. They won't even know the difference.rideincircles wrote:I bought an mp3 player that would run off an sd card for the Burn, which I loaded up with a bunch of my favorite music of all kinds. Are you talking about real DUB or it's unrecognizable, strung out cousin DUB-STEP?lucky420 wrote:I'd like to hear more dirty dub, not that house trap psytrance shit that is sooooo prevalent.

No, not at all. I was just curious, wouldn't have guessed you were a dub stepper, not that there's anything wrong with that...

That looks like a Gabber or Happy Hardcore party from Holland.
In the Northeast during that same time, we had a lot of hard house. Never hear that stuff on the playa.

Wow, all this has me going down memory lane. I never hear this kind of stuff on the playa, but wouldn't mind if it made a comeback, especially liquid, always loved watching these crews.

Re: Music that thankfully never makes it to the playa
Unfortunately, I discovered it already did make it to Burning Man: every time I had the misfortune of wandering near Camp Question Mark this year. I think I'd rather have listened to this the whole time:
But barring that "music," I'd really like to avoid:
- "Rich Girl" by Hall and Oats. That song in my head for a week killed it.
- Any music by Phil Collins
- Music by the Doobie Brothers with Michael McDonald

Re: Music that thankfully never makes it to the playa
As opposed to the toned up volume of music within the art car circle at the Man Burn in 2014, do you guys think the beat of the EDM music in the art car circle in 2015 was toned down.
It could have been because of where I was standing, but I did not perceive the beat of the EDM music as deep in my bones in 2015 as I did in 2014.

Every Phil Collins song is him whining and crying about something, usually some woman who left him - presumably because he was such an annoying downer.

Do you mean the gabber/happy harcore, hard house, or the relatively subdued liquid breaks?BBadger wrote: Unfortunately, I discovered it already did make it to Burning Man: every time I had the misfortune of wandering near Camp Question Mark this year.

No, I think it was trap music every time I was assaulted by their sound. Or maybe they had some sort of power tool and honking noise-machine. I can listen to (happy) hardcore or hard house, at least it is somewhat melodic, but that trap or whatever it was was awful shit.CyanEssence wrote:Do you mean the gabber/happy harcore, hard house, or the relatively subdued liquid breaks?
