That's pretty gnarly. Using a magnet sounded like good ol yankee ingenuity.

well a 10 lb. splitting maul hits hard, even in a old set of "Mayberry RFD" hands.

The MAIN thing, yggy, is that you are OK and will be as good as new soon.

You've had a few stories like this if I recall correctly.

Glad you're OK. With all the help you were to the Doc and his staff, I hope they waived (or at least discounted) their fee.

It's amazing what people call lucky! It would have been lucky had you not had the story to tell. Now, it's just a good thing you survived relatively unscathed. :)

Impressive Yggy! Great story with lots of cool Keystone Kops type action too.
That shard must have been moving to travel like that.

As to all those pictures, did I ever tell anyone I'm squeamish around needles and such?
Need to have needle alerts sort of like spoilers...

Spotted a new potential use for abandoned underground mines today:

Bike Parks.

Some Louisville Kentucky folk are giving it a try:

I wish 'em the best of luck. First tennis, now bikes, what's next? This pace even has zip lines. Sounds like fun place to look up and go to.

hah yeah JK......."waived or discounted" and doctors/hospitals don't seem to go together.
They were impressed, though, with the magnet and did mention it might be good to have one like that, for differing reasons.

and, "lucky" in this case, was that the shard lodged between two large veins, and just above an artery. A little either way and it'd have been a much bigger operation and repair.

and sorry Joeln! didn't think about squeamish.......and yeah "Keystone cops".......well, I sorta live that way.....hahaaha

Funny thing, if I'm faced with blood in real life I just do what needs to be done.
But show me a picture of it and it's like somebody mentioning castration.

well.......
so I was moving some large logs today, for winter milling, from the neighbors place
with my bobcat, with fork attachment.

I also moved a couple of large logs he had sitting in the way,,cull stuff.
as I dropped one on the pile, it fractured and started to roll.
A shard, pointed and about 300 lbs was driven, in sort of slow motion, into the cab/cage with me.
And me, locked into the seat by the safety bar, and nowhere to run or duck.

I braced for puncture (it was really sharp at the broken, splintered end towards me), and it hit my stomach (large target), but as it pressed, hit something or was levered and went sideways, and slammed into the cage with the point, so it jammed there.
so all it did was scratch me up and tear my shirt.
and luckily, as I back away, the shard loosened so I could push it off my lap.

The idea of pushing this log off your lap with a sharp shard involved, may me squirm a bit. I'm glad your "lap" is ok!
