Hey, I like that cartoon! So it is well known? I had not seen it.
There have been quite a few such cycles built thru the decades -- both pedal-powered and motorized.
I'm thinking it ought to be built of wood.

Re: 2016 Theme announced!!!!!!!!!!!!!! )'(
To those on eplaya with whom I've butted heads in the past:
A Burner friend of mine just sent me a PM on FB and asked me if over on the Burning Blog I wrote the first comment to the article that announced the theme for the 2016 Burn. FYI, the answer to that question is a GIANT and EMPHATIC "NO".
It seems that someone is falsely posting in the Burning Blog comments section under my name. In the comments section to the above mentioned blog post I made the below comment to the first person who attacked "Sandstorm":
"Hard Fork: FYI, this it the "real" Sandstorm, not the person who wrote the above comment that you replied to. I know about the above comment only because a Burner friend of mine PMd today and asked me if I wrote the above post. I'm no longer part of the online Burner community. I went to BM this year, had a great time and when I got back to the default world I removed myself from almost all of the FB BM groups. I long ago said what I had to say about my issues with Larry & Co. I'm completely done tooting that horn. I'm also done dealing with the bad attitudes and unhinged personalities present in the online Burner community. If I continue to go to BM it will done minus/separate from prism of the online Burner community. So, while you may like using me as a punching bag I can't take credit for the above post written under the name "Sandstorm". Have a good day.

Simon: Thank you for your post. Even before you made it I was already of the same mind as you in regards to who it was who made that Burning Blog comment under my playa name. I'll revisit this situation in a few days when I have more time on my hands. Although I don't think that he deals with moderating the comments section on the Burning Blog I've given Trilo a heads up about this "situation".Simon of the Playa wrote:sandstorm...from that blog...you know the one...
No matter what issues I've had in the past with Larry & Co. I consider the announcement of the Burning Man Theme to be something special: it acts as the quasi- official demarcation point for the community's emotional and tactical surge towards next year's big burn. Never in a million years would I even think of using the announcement of the BM theme as a chance to bitch about Larry & Co. That "someone" chose to make a false post under my playa name and have that post be the VERY FIRST COMMENT in response to the announcement of next year's BM theme makes me sick. A quick scan of the comments to the announcement of the theme show people attacking "me", Larry & Co. and one another. It makes me sick to have my name and reputation attached to an act that was meant only to cause discord amongst those reading that comments section.

Farts fire, spits sparks. According to my friend Lisa Lisa, HB's have an eversible anal stench pouch. The choice was stench or fire. Stench isn't off the table.Simon of the Playa wrote:"...spits fire

That's a hell of a lot of brass to convert to wood, and gears to convert to cogs. And removal of anything actually steam-related.unjonharley wrote:Aside from the "what ever spamming thread drift"..

I'm thinking Moving steam punk back to the edge of the industrial age. Still Victorian..maladroit wrote:That's a hell of a lot of brass to convert to wood, and gears to convert to cogs. And now for something slightly eery on Halloween:
Someone down the street has a big Mona Lisa tacked up on their house. For Halloween, somehow? Or could they be Burners?

I like the theme - it promotes sculpture. But though a rotating man would be cool, I think the BMORG should reduce the man build budget in favor of less increase in ticket prices. Not every department budget needs to increase every year.

Some of the early threshing machines (Mccormick/Deering, International Harvester) had wood panels.. Also cranes, drag lines and cats.. Some of the cats working on the AlCan highway had wood stoves in the cabs. Da vinci designed harvesters and cranes..Captain Goddammit wrote:Steam Punk is imaginary not real... you can adjust it to fit DaVinci if you want.

God, ain't that the truth. And what Larry and his sycophantic burned-out minions don't seem to understand is that your typical stoned burner doesn't give shit one about that sort of thing. Larry's grasp on these sorts of things rank right up there with his embracing modern dentistry.some seeing eye wrote:I like the theme - it promotes sculpture.
