Mark Your Generators!

Post by ManitoBURN » Sun Nov 29, 2015 2:37 pm

This Incident did not happen on the playa but the lesson can be applied there.
A while ago, I was working on my bus and needed to run a generator for tools. I was tired, it was loud, so i hid it behind the trusty feild(4)Runner.
A buddy of mine came over to help and needed a lift from the road (4x4 req. when it rains) guess what i did?

I ran the damn generator over! It was pushed onto its side and bent several pieces and broke the fiberglass intake manifold in half.
Thankfully, I was able to repair it with some epoxy and 2 layers of cereal box gasket.
Mark your generator well! make it unmissable! Just because you know where it is, doesn't mean you will remember!

This is what is commonly referred to as the "bonehead maneuver". Place a pole mounted flag on it similar to those used on dirtbikes or ATVs, or do what we like to call the "stoner check" before proceeding any further... It'll save you time and money.
Sooner or later, it will get real strange...

I don't think "mark your generator" was the correct lesson here. There are any number of things you could accidentally run over.
The lesson is "check around your truck before you jump in and go!"

Fixed the title, since it's a better fit.

You did yourself a favor! Now you can buy a Honda EU-series generator.

But yeah, having some kind of glaring reminder is very helpful, and vital when someone else isn't familiar with what you did and trying to help out.
