The JRS announcing 2015 ticket sales was sent out on December 23rd, so hopefully we will hear about 2016 within the next couple of weeks.

My fuzzy not guaranteed memory is that the tax is assessed as if all the sales are at the lowest tier of tickets generally available to the public and that the BMORG was in discussions with the tax man on all the ins and outs of the law and potential legal appeals before they set the ticket prices and this year's budget.

Mid January could be anything prior to January 31st---but that's subject to change. It's all playa time remember.

If a KOA holds a big bonfire, perhaps on Summer Solstice, no-one would consider it an entertainment venue instead of a campground. Same with BM.

The tax is generally assigned for events with paid lineups (concerts, sporting events, etc). Strangely enough, exceptions are typically made by the state of Nevada for things like boxing matches and auto racing.... presumably because those events are considered to be a major draw that brings in tourism dollars from outside the state get spent in Nevada.

I don't mind that exceptions are given for boxing or racing, I just think that the same rules should apply. The majority of people who attend Burning Man are not Nevada residents, and burners spend tens of millions of dollars in Nevada (on supplies, hotel stays, etc). If we don't get the same treatment that boxing and racing get, you can expect that your net price per ticket will go up another $40ish.

so, my solution is to require everyone to enter the thunderdome at least once, and we turn 447 into a mad max free for all with gerlach as the finish line.

I respectfully disagree. I've never heard of anyone mentioning "mid-month" and referring to the 29th or 30th day of that month. Perhaps you are getting 'mid month' and 'within the month of ____' mixed up.
