12 Hour Shower Camp
12 Hour Shower Camp
Does anybody have any 411 on this camp? I wound up camping next to them last year in an open camping area at 5:40ish & H and it was A-MAZING! They brought in something like 900 gallons of water and had shower facilities open to all that ran 12 hours each day... or nearly that. I fell in love with that camp and would love to make a donation to the cause and, if possible, try to strategically locate my camp near them again this year. I have scowered the interweb and can't find any info on them. Anybody familiar with this camp or the organizers?

AC, I didn't know we were neighbors. We could have had a drink. I was camped at 5:25 and H. Directly across from them. Their shower was a recirculating system, (fully checked out by the health dept while they ran it.) It was amazing and I will be looking for them too.

Placement has not even started for 2016.
There is no camp that can supply the desires of 70,000 burners.
Posting anything that would be instantly destroyed by the masses on a public message board does no good.
Asking the universe to search for you is lame.

SSE, They weren't a placed camp. They showed up a couple days after opening and camped without street frontage. They would put out their sandwich sign when they felt like running the shower. It was not as popular as it would have been if the weather was hot. I'm bring a gift for them just in case I find them this year. That isn't their usual camping spot. It is mine though. What a great bunch of burners.

NO KIDDING?! Wow, what a bummer. I wish I had known. If you were across from them, you were across from me as well. They were camped just to my right. This year I intend to make the meet & greet, we shall have a drink!Ratty wrote:AC, I didn't know we were neighbors. We could have had a drink. I was camped at 5:25 and H. Directly across from them. Thank you for your valuable insight. I didn't realize that placement has not even started for 2016. Here I thought it was already finalized and published and due to be arriving with my 2016 tickets any day, THANK YOU! What was I thinking?! As I mentioned, I've tried searching for them prior to asking the universe, but thanks.some seeing eye wrote:Placement has not even started for 2016.

Re: 12 Hour Shower Camp
Public showers are not allowed, so any camp which does that is ding so under the radar. Certainly would not be placed.

Public Pools and Showers
Public pools and public showers are not permitted in Black Rock City. Water for private use that entails full body contact or consumption must be potable and come from Nevada State Health Division approved water sources such as water stores and supermarkets (see below). In other words, don’t fill your water from a gas station water hose.

Re: 12 Hour Shower Camp
Many credentialed Burning Man staffers (DPW, ESD, Rangers, etc.) have access to the showers located way out around 5:30 and L. I used them a few times, but as the week went on I chose not to, either due to my shift schedule (they are open only at specific times) or due to the dust-even with my electric trike I would have ended up looking like a powdered sugar doughnut before I got back to 3:15 and E, which sort of defeated the purpose. I have a shower in my tiny travel trailer, but you have to be really frugal with the water to make it last the entire two weeks I am at BRC. I don't subscribe to the potable water and pump-out vendors.
Why, do you ask, that staff get to use the showers? I don't think you would want some medic tending your battered body to be dripping crusty funk into your open wounds.
A shower point, if logistically possible, would be quite popular with Burners, but it does incrementally diminish the principle of self reliance.

I was aware of that policy, so I was surprised to see it being offered up by the camp & it being subtly advertised on a sign along the street. I certainly wasn't going to nark on themAntiM wrote:Public showers are not allowed, so any camp which does that is ding so under the radar. Certainly would not be placed.

AC do you know the Gate girl that was camped also just to the left of the shower camp. Her shade structure looks like a castle. She parks there every year. Also Mad Max and the other DPW Golf Cart repair guys. They would have been behind your camp on 'G'. We all come in early to work. Before the gates open we see a lot of each other then rarely all week. It's been a nice friendly, quiet neighborhood. We had a grilled cheese, sardines and bacon party. This year I'll hand out those 'eplaya' signs and maybe they'll be more 'chance meetings'.

Re: 12 Hour Shower Camp
There are a couple other camps that do some sort of showering and cleansing thing. They jump through many hoops for the state of Nevada, and kudos to them for providing fun and interesting experiences for burners. Poly Paradise does the Human Carcass Wash, and the folks at Nectar Village operate the Steam Bath project.
I don't know anyone with the camp you're talking about though - good luck in reconnecting.

Re: 12 Hour Shower Camp
Interesting... I was unaware of the prohibition on public showers. Seems like the camp run by the Dr. Bronners folks might be pushing the envelope on that, not to mention the Human Carcass Wash?
Re: 12 Hour Shower Camp
I thought there was no more Dr Bronners.

Yeah, even over our way at Astral Headwash we have to have our water barrels inspected and signed off on every year before we go get them filled.trilobyte wrote:There are a couple other camps that do some sort of showering and cleansing thing. They jump through many hoops for the state of Nevada"

Re: 12 Hour Shower Camp
Thought I'd heard they were a few streets behind us (we were at 4:20 & E, as usual) last year. The name of the camp isn't actually Dr. Bronners, of course - as I understand it, it's one of the family members who brings the camp and uses the Bronnermobile (or whatever it is called).Ratty wrote:I thought there was no more Dr Bronners.
Mind you, I've never been there, so that's at best secondhand information.

Re: 12 Hour Shower Camp
In 2014, north of 5:00 on about E and over close to 4:00, there was a huge showering unit consisting a 3-4 18 wheelers with clear sides where those who wished a shower would walk through in one long and continuous group and they were showered by folks standing on platforms above and showering them with hoses. They walked in one end of a 18 wheeler and out the other end.
For those wishing to watch, there was a large covered lounge area with a good number of stuffed couches and chairs to sit on.
When I passed by, there must have been 200-300 folks standing in line outside waiting to be worked into the showering crowd.
