OK, who else is going to Afrikaburn?

I randomly googled it today and was taken aback that it was the day of the general sale...

...so I bought a ticket...

...AND I"M GOING TO AFRIKABURN!!!

So I should research flights and car rentals.

Is anyone else going? We should talk.

It looks like Sextant will have a small outpost in Tankwa Town!

I think I'll bring a bunch of these to gift :mrgreen:

Dog Pilot (James) and Caravan Dan (Dan) from the airport are supposedly going to Africaburn.

Wow, that's awesome Torrey! I know a few who've been, everyone has reported it as an amazing experience.

On a side note, I'm giving this a nudge over to the Regional Network board since that's a better fit.

Two weeks ago, my fiancée and I had dinner with a world-traveling burner friend and his girlfriend, both from her very small hometown. We don't know them super well, but we really, really like them--lots of shared interests, similar life paths, and just generally awesome people. They mentioned the months-long journey that they're about to undertake (SW USA, Central America, Europe, South Africa), including attending AfrikaBurn for the first time. AB has been on our radar for years, but we'd never really considered it as a feasible option until that conversation. We did some research, looked over our finances, and bam--got tickets last night in the final general sale. Now it looks like there's going to be a contingent of 8-10 people from my fiancée's Alaskan hometown of 4000, including her parents, who came with us to the big burn in 2014.

Stokededness level is approximately 5000 units right now.

What are your plans before and after the event with regards to transportation?

I'm trying to figure out how much time to add so I can book flights.

Sarge: plans are still underway, but we're putting together a little family vacation. Looking at flying into Cape Town on April 21st to allow for some transition and shopping time, and then staying in South Africa about two weeks after the burn ends. Planning to rent a few RVs between everyone in the group (they're SO cheap! like $600-900 for the week with the highest level of insurance! we camp in tents at Burning Man, but flying in without camping gear and looking at the rates they offer in SA it's a no-brainer for us). Then we'll rent a car and tour around the region a bit--looking at Cape Town, the Garden Route, Addo Elephant Park, and a few wine/cheese/olive festivals happening in the area at that time. South Africa has long been at or near the top of our travel list, so we plan to take advantage of as much as we can.

This will be my first AfrikaBurn as well. I'm commenting to see if others turn up in this thread! :mrgreen: I've joined half a dozen related Facebook groups for more info, but I'm specifically looking for people who know the survival/packing differences between the playa and Tankwa. Like I guess we won't need vinegar, and I hear the ground is harder to put tent stakes into.
