Dude, I memorized those pages from Dana's Manual of Mineralogy when I was in undergrad school. I rarely have to look any mineral data up now. Things change, thougn now that they have handheld XRF units you can take in the field for instant ID purposes. Oh yeah, XRF is X-Ray fluorescence. They also have a Raman spectroscopy unit that's portable, but it costs too much, at 40K a pop.
