one of my best times was my first time. Went with 2 of my adult kids, eyes wide open! Sat on the edge of the boundary of ring when the man burnt. Drove a 24ft rental truck and accidently ran over 2 stop signs and someones big flag poles.
Got stuck in the yurt during an hours long white out, we got wasted and drew an epic battle between reptiles and amphibians on our yurt walls called it the Shit Panties War of 2010...

I always have a good time with my kids
Oh my god, it's HUGE!

What was your "Best Time So Far" at Burning Man is sort of asking, which child to you like the best.

The burn that sticks out most vividly memorably in my mind was my first burn. Where I live cannot ever be called a "hot bed" of burner activity.

I spent a whole year - plus; plotting & planning all by myself, made the 4-1/2 day drive solo and camped by myself at the event. Everything was so new and exciting: the planning, they buying of stuff that I really needed, the long-long drive, all the sights along the way and in states that I had never visited before and asking myself, "Now I wonder which towns are Wadsworth, Empire and Nixon and then pops up Gerlach - And now, do I turn right or do I turn left", and my first greeter (no one checked inside my stuff and I was not searched by LEO), Black Rock City and the folks, the wonder, the mystery and the excitement -- did I mention my failures and all the money that I spent on stuff that I really needed and then gave most of it away to some very-very strange folks who live in Texas after I returned home and who drove way over here to pick it up ......................

What was my, "Best Time So Far"? ------------ All of them and that is why I keep returning.......... and I will for as long as I am able.

I'm giving this a nudge over to the Stories board, since that's a better fit for threads about Burning Man stories.

To answer the question, I couldn't tell you. I'd rather spend my time thinking about and working on new weird stuff and the journey ahead than looking back at old weird stuff and the journey behind.... and in all the years of participating I haven't really given it much thought... let alone ranked favorites. This thread does remind me though, I still need to finish going through my pics and video from last year. :D

For me, it frequently is when visitors drop by camp and we sit and chat. Only time each year I get to see these fuckos, they don't all go to the meet n greet.

Inside the Great Circle with the fire conclave is pretty nifty.

Small camps along the back streets such as the fortune telling tea service, or Lavender Camp.

Golden Cafe because it feels like a family reunion. You're underage, that waits.

Trash fence. Just because.

Random hot dog cart in the dust.

Rainbow after a rain storm.

Racing the BLM in our pedal cart.

A thousand things which cannot be planned.

Not the "best" moment (there are too many), but one time after a looong night, I was chatting with friends in the common area of my camp. It was mid-morning, waaay past the time I should've gone down to rest after probably 20-hours of being awake and sleep deprived. In the pauses in conversation, I was nodding off constantly in the chair and trying to stay away. Finally, I nodded completely off.

I was probably zonked out in that chair for about 15 minutes. When I woke up, I found a Polaroid photo in my hand -- a hilarious photo of two camp mates making some crazy faces behind my slumped over head. Those random, zany moments with friends and new people are what I like the most.

I love all of the stories I have received and I'm looking forward to sharing more some time. And to understanding fully how much people love the burn and what they have loved and shared there. It's really something that I feel is meant to be.

probably my first time.
I went "on a fluke" friends (who I still camp with) got me two tickets. A friend and I could go for Thurs/Sun only, and in a week went from "huh?" to " I'm on my way". met up with two other "virgins" and the vets sent us "out", said don't come back for a while......and we walked and were overwhelmed, for probably 20 hours! And I don't do drugs, so it was pure excitement. Well that and a 6 hour white out.
It's all been good since but that first time, overwhelmed, overstimulated, sleep deprived and walking non stop, just sticks out for me.

My best time was 3:23 seconds on a long DH Mtn Bike course. I beat out 4 other in my race class. Got 1st place and received a sweet ass medal! This summer I plan to beat my time and get my Best Time So far.

Best time was being there for all the really cool stuff that happened last decade, before "The Green Man" in 2007 brought out the endless hoards of namaste motherfuckers.

Place is now forever unclean. Enervation, contagion, plague of the unwashed has DOOMED the desert party forever!

Best time ever is unloading a full clip from an AK47 into the Frog Bat.

I could never choose a Best Time at Burning Man anymore (nor would I want to; Meat Hunter's declaration that it's like picking a favorite child is very apt, especially if one has 11 or 12 children).

I might have a favorite Burn week overall, but I'm not 100% certain, even of that . . .

All of these responses are awesome, I like the responses of not having a favorite burn. It really makes me happy that Burning Man is a place that can be memorable every time you go. I can't wait to experience it for myself c:

a word of caution:
Throw, these expectations out the window.
the best formula for disappointment is expecting an outcome at Burning Man.

Burning Man "is" nothing. It will be a combination of what you make it, what you expect, and luck. Good or bad.

be prepared, but don't make a plan. And, don't expect or anticipate anything. Be open, aware and present.
What should happen, will, but it may not fit a preconceived vision.

A good friend and I were walking around at night sometime and came across a couple ping pong tables and there were 2 people playing. We were pretty altered so just watching the bright ball bouncing around was pretty entertaining. We were challenged to a doubles game and decided to give it a shot. I am an average ping pong player but my friend is VERY VERY good at it. Almost pro level and we have played doubles before so were used to each others style. We proceeded to squash them like a bug which attracted several other "good" players. We must have played ping pong for 4 or 5 hours that night and had so much fun.. That was my 3rd burn and they just keep getting better.

Too many fun times, but one that sticks out is my third burn. It was the first time I was actually going to see friends vs just solo camping or meeting people for the first time. Drove 12+ hours from LA, waited in gate line, etc, got to camp and hugged everyone. Was so amped that we went out riding bikes all night. I think I was up for 26-27 hours. lol
