Man, I wish I could find a decent pic of the Falkor bike I've seen at the last couple Maker Faire's.

I'm gonna be honest here,
Right around the corner from the part of myself that loves big flaming explosions and Swedish thrash metal there's a dark, dark place that secretly hopes he's elected.. I'd really like the peaceful transition to a Star Trek society that Bernie promises but I think that a big, ugly, cathartic process facilitated by the Drumpf might be more effective.

No. Not a joke. This is the way that every nationalistic fascist there every was slipped into power. Then consolidated that power.A-RockLeFrench wrote:I'm gonna be honest here,

Truth be told you cannot take any of them seriously. They are all going to say what they need to say to get a vote, even if it contradicts what they said last week.
I have not run into any one who takes the Trump seriously, but I have run into a significant number of people who are voting for him, simply because they are sick of the status quo.

Again, this is not stuff to take lightly. Democracies have been lost in this way. Historically, in other parts of the west, nationalistic fascist candidates elected on a need for "change" then consolidate power. Nationalism Trumps democracy.Skuzzy61 wrote:I have not run into any one who takes the Trump seriously, but I have run into a significant number of people who are voting for him, simply because they are sick of the status quo.

And with Drumpf supporters, it seems that they only remember the parts he's said that they agree with, ignoring whatever else he said and all the things he hasn't got an answer for.Skuzzy61 wrote:... Astoundingly not a joke. See below.Roundabout wrote:No. Not a joke. This is the way that every nationalistic fascist there every was slipped into power. Then consolidated that power.A-RockLeFrench wrote:...facilitated by the Drumpf might be more effective.
Which is what I've heard firsthand from people who lived in Germany at the time, when they or their parents voted for Hitler, for that very reason, or for various complaints or lack of faith with the usual politician types ending with "why not give Hitler a chance.". In one case, a friend overheard his parents speaking those last words, with an additional "he could work out, if not, how much harm could he do?"Skuzzy61 wrote:... people who are voting for him, simply because they are sick of the status quo.

Re: Donald Trump is my hero
Not a joke at all.
And not knowing where things are going I do have this to say:
Right now, and not many will agree with me, I think that the astounding rise of Donald as a completely out-of-the-closet asshole politician has been, is and can continue to be a gift of great value to our society. Thanks to his campaign we now have a whole new light being shed on our (America and the the West's) racist, bigoted, nationalist and fascist tendencies that have existed in the shadows for decades. Now there is no denying it. We have problems. Big, serious, ugly problems that are systemic and institutional. Problems that will not go away until they are addressed. The first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem.
The band-aid has been ripped. Were we ready? Will the wounds heal or will they fester and destroy us? There are no answers yet. But consider this, The difference between this clown and the others before him is his audacity. We have had leaders in the past who were sociopathic liars who without pause, would send thousands of young soldiers to kill and die so that their well-heeled friends would profit from weapons sales and the contracts to re-build. They were experts at and employed many more experts at manipulation and deceit.
We live in a country (most of us anyways) where we have benefited greatly from the spoils of a pillaged world. Who has done the pillaging? When our leaders are not invading oil-rich countries they are installing fascist dictators and puppet governments that will enslave and impoverish entire populations and in turn sell us cocaine, bananas and shoes at bargain basement prices. And we all know that democracy's a joke.
Here we sit, chirping back and forth as we plan our big annual get-together. Readying for the feast in the desert with the rest of the plovers, while the crocodiles lounge and the jackals whisper to the wolves.. Is the roar of the lion really that which we should fear?
Please excuse the grasping metaphors, I never was much of a poet. My point is this: we have been blessed with a wake-up call. What will we do with our day? Do we get to work or go back to bed? Personally, I think I'll make another drink.
TLDR: We'll get what we deserve.
