Sparkeltart,
"From each according to his ability, to each according to his need." Who determines his ability or his need? Does he have a say? What about what he wants? "All people enjoy equal social and economic status." I would not enjoy being forced to be equal not when I want to be more.
BRC inspires me to be more and contribute more then I ever would if I were being forced to live a certain way. Your responce was really well written.

I guess I don't see it as something being forced, it would be better if people entered into that sort of relationship willingly. It doesn't neccessarily mean that you have to get by with less, rather it's distrubuting what there is among everyone so that we all can be at the same, uh, I guess, comfort level of living. Ideally, we each determine what we need and in doing so we keep in mind the benefit or potential problem of how what we need affects the whole. Respecting each other, being upfront and honest. Giving everyone a hand up. Not being greedy, yet sharing/gifting because we want to. As individuals we can be as 'more' as we want to be- the key is that everyone is respected for who they are and what their abilities and contributions are.
I think talking about Communism does relate to the OP. BRC is like a big commune. We each determine what we can bring to the whole, and we take what we need when we are there. We are thinking about the whole during the time we are there and how what we do and need impacts it (JOTS, LNT, etc...which incidentally we are 'forced' to do while we are there, but for most we do it because we want to). We get out of it what we put into it.

where am I?
I'm right here, always watching. Nat, I have given your info to Steve from the SF Bay Gaurdian newspaper who is doing a story on this. You are my ambassador. I stand behind you, confident in your leadership.
As for anyone who thinks they can vote for the acts that play at the Odeon; I remind you that I don't advertise the Odeon as radicly inclusive. I pay everyone really well, I don't do the voulenteer thing. I also don't say that the Odeon is a 'community'. But sure, if you want to work for the Odeon for free for years and max out your credit cards because you beleive that the Odeon is a force for good and you want to voulenteer thousands of hours.... sure. You can vote on the acts. No problem. I'll give you keys to the safe too... catch my drift, Skippy?

But he was Communist, so eh, it's interchangable I guess.
