Greetings from the great state of Vermont,

I am interested in gifting branding in 2016 and would like to hear of others experiences branding people on the playa.

I am particularly interested in the how to, what not to do and brand care instructions.

Just like offering any kind of food gifting requires a permit from the state of Nevada, offering the gift of tattooing, piercing, or branding would require the necessary permits for that kind of activity. My understanding is that Pershing county is quick to shut down (and possibly remove from the event) anyone they find operating an unpermitted operation, you may want to start by exploring this page and reaching out to county officials to find out how to get permitted.

Excuse me but I have to ask. Do you really think this is a good idea? You have no experience at this and the conditions are less than ideal. This is a gamble for so many reasons and it's not money that's on the table.

Branding? Like real hot iron burning people who then get infected as well as generally fucking them up?
Or something more like the camp that already does this, the RIGHT way; Brand-Ur-Ass camp. They use rubber stamps.

There is already is someone at burning man that does this... cool idea, and if I didn't already have a burning man tattoo, I'd probably would have gotten the brand.

I got my right arm branded as did a few of my campmates a few years back on playa. Mine turned out excellent! I'll try to figure out how to post a pic of it

No branding for me. I've been a welder for 35 plus years. I've had enough of being burned. It HURTS!!! And watch out for infection. You just opened up your outer shell to anything that wants to fall in.

Lucky, It's beautiful. I know of several camps that do it on the sly. Just for their 'known' friends. I would suspect it's not legal and that's why it's an underground activity.

Having an open burn wound in an environment where getting/keeping clean is a challenge seems like a bad idea. Plus it hurts like a m'fer.

i did get lucky in the way it healed. This was done by some random guy down the street from our camp on Wednesday of burn week.

I just tried to keep it clean and used neosporin and lightly bandaged with air drying too. The sun on it would cause it to sting at times. The healing was more painful than the actual branding. it really only touches your skin for a sec or two

I cannot believe people think this is a good idea. But then, I can't believe people think weird piercings are a good idea, or freaky gauged earrings, or Justin Beiber.

I witnessed two camp mates and a friend apply a very similar brand with their home-made iron, they were trying to talk me into the mayhem. Funk that! It did hurt like a M'efer, I saw it with my own two eyes. Smelled even worse... There was shrieking, jumping, yelling and cursing, and that was just from me.

it's really not that bad/painful. Tattoos hurt more or better if you will, more of a long sustained pain. Brands...poof over in an instant

I do not have any tattoos either. Nope,..not going to happen. I just do not see any benefit to it. I do not begrudge those who ink up, but it is not for me.

Keep in mind that playa dust is not sterile. People do get infected wounds at the event. So your victims need to clean the wound and change the dressing at least daily. Medical can do, but please do not burden them just because you can. Doing on-playa body mods at the very end of the week would help.

Playa dust has brine shrimp eggs. Once that gets into your bloodstream, you don't want them hatching inside you or turning you into a zombie! And brine shrimp even have parasitic worms.

Obviously Lucky did not die from branding. Hey, we love that! I have many friends with scarification body mods created/cared for/access to health care if infected in sterile conditions. It is cool for them!

But to the OP @less is more: BM is filled with wouldn't it be cool if I did/provided "This".

"This", when it involves health, benefits from community perspective and feedback. And doing "This" is different on playa vs off health-wise.

Gifting a hot piece of metal brand on the playa is like gifting a root canal without Novocain.

Why not gift yourself as a branding canvas instead?

Do bit of metal-shop crafting beforehand or flag down folks with cool belt buckles and whatnot.

Id bern ya in a hot second, left handed no less.

Golden showers immediately after.
