disagree. "better for everybody" is a tangible and objective statement and stated goal. "trying" may well be subjective and I agree.
My point was, that "better for everybody" is subjective, in that it will never be "everybody" or, "better", as relates to some . "most"? maybe. "many"? probably.

Well, that is extreme. Interesting what the selected context of my statement is.

Okay, I'll say it. The problem with trying to make it better for everyone is everyone has their own idea of what "better" means.

Here is a simple example. I am the Director of Infrastructure for our National Historic District. Recently, our park sign was hit by a drunk driver. It was a nice brick and oak sign. Now, without asking, everyone wanted a better looking sign. The out pouring of what was "better" was all over the place. I had to make the call and there was no way it was going to satisfy everyone. So, we selected material choices and put it to a vote. The majority won out, much to the angst of many people.

Sometimes statements made are observations, not a declaration of belief. I have plenty of observations of failed efforts to "make it better for everybody", but it does not stop me from trying to make things better.

I'll step up and admit I probably took the word "everybody" quite literally, which, possibly, is my own short coming (this assumes most would not take it literally).

Hmmmm.....maybe I'm too different to know better. No matter what, something is left in the US after every election cycle that's pretty much the same....me. All I know how to do is keep on keepin' on.

Regarding all four of the candidates on my main issues.....fuck 'em, and none to gently....they have no clue.

What are 'MY' issues? Increased use of one-call utility notification. All are probably 'for' it, but still, some contractors don't use it, and people inevitably DIE. How do you get these hard-headed mofos to pay attention? They're like people who text and drive (ask me about THAT some time...a lady who was a vey dear friend to many Midwest Burners got killed a few years back by some asshole who was texting and driving....he WASN'T paying attention and got her head on out on a rural road with an impact speed of 55 mph one way. She was going 55 mph the other way. His vehicle was bigger, had bigger air bags, and he walked away from the crash. They life-flighted her to a Level 1 trauma center and she died on the operating table. I composed a song for her which I sang at the Temple three years ago a capella.)

Oh yeah, let's talk about some other issues which this bunch has ALSO avoided.
