4,410 total round trip miles and 91 total round trip hours
After 4-1/2 days on the road, 2,205 miles and 45.5 hours behind the steering wheel and pulling the trailer, I arrived back home in Mississippi at 5:20 pm today (Sunday).
Sought out and met Elliot, Fig Jam and Anti M. Wish that I could managed to meet more e-players, but one of my volunteer shifts at the airport prevented me from attending the Meet & Great -- Next year.
More later after the body figures out that it is no longer in the car.

Wow! Almost exactly our mileage too! Our trip was 4455.5 miles. We put 356 hours on the generator (ran it all the way there, and at the burn, and all the way back home). Averaged 10 mpg and $3.50/gal. The word "Toyota" is now engraved in my tuckus.
When I put it into those types of terms, I sorta wonder what the FLOCK we were thinking.

In my 2008 Mercury Grand Marquis, pulling a 2,200 lb. trailer w/wood cargo box in the bed and a trike perched on top, I averaged 14 mpg (normal mpg is 24). Based on my instrument cluster readout, my lowest was 10 mpg (between Tucumcari, NM and Flagstaff, AZ.
On the "to" trip I traveled I-40; with all the agonizing 40 mph full throttle 6,000' passes, I opted for I-20 for the "from" trip --- much flatter and much less strain on the car and body. Not as scenic, but one cannot have everything.
Although the southern I-20 route was 170 miles longer, I actually cut 2.5 hrs. off my travel time home to the Jackson, MS area.
Oh yes, my whole trip both ways was solo.
Regarding my electrified trike, I would have had a very-very difficult time without it. It was my absolutely best investment, a life saver a God send and made traveling around the city/playa most pleasant and enjoyable. I never ran out of battery (20a 36v lithium ion). I used my 2000i generator to charge the battery every night and only used ~6 gal. of non-ethanol gas. I gifted the remainder of my gas to a young couple who were driving back to Wisconsin.

You guys make me feel a bit better about our journey. 2,000 miles, all of driven by me. Ugh. With a Toyota Tundra towing our trailer and equipment, I figured we were pulling around 8,000 pounds. I originally estimated 10mpg, but bucked a headwind all the way from Colorado until we hit the Nevada border which resulted in 7-8 mpg the whole way. I swear I could watch the gas gauge drop. Sort of blew our gas budget, but oh well. Return trip was a shade under 10 mpg but by that point I was too tired to care.

Re: 4,410 total round trip miles and 91 total round trip hou
Ha, you have me beat by about 200 miles, which after a 3 day driving marathon home I'm glad I didn't have to include. I was a little stressed about the ability of my van (with 180,000+ miles) to make it through the mountains since I knew it was loaded too heavy & pulling an untested trailer. This was compounded by the fact that my check engine light came on as I began exodus. But I am glad to report that 1/2 way home the light went out, the trailer proved stable at 85 MPH on I-80, & the scenery was beautiful.
I'm the type of person that just wants to get from point A to B but I caved in & took some side trips that my passengers wanted to see. We stopped at the Corn Palace, The Great Salt Lake, & Independence Rock. While these diversions added to the overall travel time it really was worth while to take a break & enjoy the company of friends at some amazing locations. Ok, the Corn Palace wasn't amazing, but now I can say "Been there done that".

4,091 miles from San Antonio and back. Wound out on 10, picked up a 28 foot Gooseneck in Wickenburg, and dropped it off after the burn, went home through Amarillo, had to go see a girl.
Stopped at Meteor Crater and Standing on a Corner in Winslow on the way.

5918 all told here.... but I let someone else do the driving as I don't have a pilot's license.
Feels kinda wrong against all these brave stories, but I really just want to get there, and stay as long as possible.

6,222 miles, solo, with stops along the way on my yearly visits to friends and family. Spent am extra day in CO on my way back. It's too early to even give it too much thought but it has occurred to me that the Burner Express may be ripe (in conjunction with NYC container for my camp setup).

Due to my Virgin adrenalin and mounting excitement, my 2,200 mile 4-1/2 day solo drive from Mississippi to Black Rock City pulling a cargo trailer was not all that bad.
However, my 2,200 mile 4-1/2 day solo drive back home took a real toll on my body and mind -- Miles and miles and miles of boring and never ending miles.

Sunbeam,
What a kind and generous offer to a soon to be ol' 71 year old.
I would dearly love to take you up on caravanning, even if it is only for 1/2 - 3/4 of the way.
This year, my quickest route for return home was via. I-10 & I-20:
BRC to Fernley, NV (overnight - rest, reorganization and three hot showers)
Fernley, NV to Boulder City, NV (overnight)
Boulder City, NV to Lordstown, NM (overnight)
Lordstown, NM to Amarillo, TX (overnight)
Amarillo TX to Jackson, MS
I camp and volunteer at the airport which would make me very easy to locate.
Please send me a PM so that we can establish positive contact information and discuss the possibilities.

Hey Meathunter, Forgive my spotty memory. Did you come to the 2016 M&G? I remember you on playa of course but not at the thing. This year I'll pick you up on the way. I'll make a 'Closed for Party' sign that you can put out on the Know-it-all table.

Ha, ha. Well? Did you come to it or not? Meathunter. I thought of you when I posted that recipe porn book. NO. Not like that! I was wondering if you collected cookbooks as well as writing them. This would be an interesting addition to any collection. The difficult decision is ......keep it in the kitchen or under the mattress.

I'll have to make sure I went to the 2016 M&G this year. I feel bad not being able to make it to the 2015 M&G.

Re: 4,410 total round trip miles and 91 total round trip hours
My round trip from home to BRC last year was 5380 miles with an overall average of 20.0 MPG. I was driving a Dodge Ram 2500 5.9 diesel towing my Casita egg trailer with my trike, generators, fuel, water, and some cargo in the truck bed. My route was NE Texas northwest to I-35 at the OK line, then straight north to York, NE (got onto I-80) and stayed on it 80 all the way to Fernley, then BRC. Drove it in 3 days.
After Burn week I went to Little Bighorn Battlefield MT, Devils's Tower WY, Mount Rushmore SD, The Badlands SD, Beaver Creek MN (one of my bucket list states), then turned almost south back to NE Texas. Took 8 days going home from BRC and touring these historic locations.
This year looks challenging. Outbound will be the same route as 2015, but after Burn week, it's Reno-Crater Lake OR-west to US 101 for a drive up almost all of the OR and WA coasts, then turn east just south of Canada to Coeur D'Alene ID and continue east into ND (another bucket list state) then turning south back home to NE TX.
I just got home from a 3400 mile, 13 day road trip in the SE and south central USA and on my last driving day, I stopped at the local Dodge dealer and traded in my 11 year old Dodge diesel for a new 2016 Dodge 1500 4x4 Ecodiesel. Sweet!
But after not making car payments for 5 years, it will be an adjustment.

Dang, and I thought our 3,623 mile round trip to/from Burning Man this year would be a long drive. I;ll remember this thread while driving and thinking, "Was I nuts for doing this!?!?! What the heck was I thinking?!?!?!"
I would like to treat my gas pedal as a binary operator and get the cooperation of everyone in front of me!
