2016 One Item A Day For BM List....
Re: 2016 One Item A Day For BM List....
There was a way we used to hunt down a short. It involved the fuses and arching something with a screw driver. Damned if I can remember.

Got the casters for the bar cart I'm working on...

Re: 2016 One Item A Day For BM List....
I found the problem with my limo. While giving a tour with my caregiver, she slammed the front passenger door : and the door light and under dash light went out. It was just a sticky door light switch was not closing tightly. It is like the frig light switch that turns off when you close the door. It was the main drain on battery.
" Problem with anything mechanical? Just bang it with a big stick. " - Beach-Master on the movie " The Longest Day '.
Another problem is the defrost fan at the windshield runs constantly ( part of automatic climate-control ). Some YouTube movies show that dry-rotted O-rings on solenoid piston vac switches are not controlling fan switches properly. It is a chore to pull dash apart to get to control unit to pull solenoid pistons and replace O-rings with silicone bi-electric lube to make vac switches work. Or I could just pay a dealer/ shop to replace the entire climate control box for $200.00. $3.00 rings and silicone might be the way to go, or I could just run the AC low all the time when driving... Oh, and the right rear tire is flat now. 2 rims and tires equal another $200.00.... Oh, and the trunk key is missing as well as a keyless door switch clicker...Another $20.00...DARN !

Whew! I've been sewing for a week on this project. Finally done. Pictures next week on the sewing thread. (It's not for me and I don't want to ruin the surprise.)

Orange box hardware purchases. I found some resin lamp finials online that look like little bouquets of flowers. Ridiculously cheap... just needed some short bolts to fix then onto some bump caps. I found the threads were not standard for lamp bows which would be a fine thread 1/4", but seemed a coarser thread (great!!!1/4-20 would be easy and innexpensive to buy a bunch of. I'm glad I took one with me to the store as I found it to need a metric screw at about.45 cents a piece. The ridiculous price on the little item makes more sense now. Then a tube of loctite costs $5.50???!!! No small projects.

Some freshly made gifts drying in the racks (bandanas and t-shirts):

Re: 2016 One Item A Day For BM List....
Leap those are beautiful. Are they silk screened? My mind immediately jumped to all the pieces I would do if it were a stencil. Anyway, great looking gifts!

Thanks Ratty! Yes, these are screen prints. I normally do stencils but I recently found a great community printshop in Newark and I took a workshop with a burner! So I am still earning the craft. I've cut out some detailed stencil's before but nothing quite like this.
Re: 2016 One Item A Day For BM List....
Wow, Leap... those are really nice!
I hope to be lucky enough to see someone walking around the Playa, sporting one of those shirts or bandannas, and I'll know where it came from!

Re: 2016 One Item A Day For BM List....
I've gotten a whole bunch of design work done over the last little while... then built 3D models of all the parts, textured and assembled them, and have placed them into my 3D model of the camp. I'm tinkering with renders, and at this point it's kind of in ridiculous mode (high resolution pics with all the various quality settings cranked up). Even with lots of computing horsepower, each frame takes hours to render. I'll hopefully get to posting some of those in the days ahead.
In the meantime, I've also gotten the bar rail moulding piece...

Hopefully this afternoon and evening I'll get more time to work on a couch design. The first couple versions were pretty decent, but time to get back to the drawing board and come at the project from another angle...

Re: 2016 One Item A Day For BM List....
Sunny today and I am well past the date of the last hard freeze, so I drained the RV anti-freeze from my trailer water system and flushed it until clear with a water-Clorox solution.
The final parts of this cleaning process was to fill the water tank and hold tanks half-full with another the water-chlorine mixture and drive it down a curvy road to agitate and then flush the system again with clear water.
Even when new right from the factory, I never trusted the trailer water system to be safe for drinking. I always consider the water in my trailer water system as being suitable only for non-potable water uses.

That ain't nothing. Californians don't drink water that comes right to their house through pipes!
I'm going down for a nap and plan to dream of the burn. That counts as one item.

Put the finishing touches on my playa trike and ordered a new lock for it. Also replaced a pair of goggles that got broken last year. Received confirmation that I will have space on the shipping container from Boston. Volunteered to help a group of local burners with mods to their MV.

Why wouldn't you drink the tap water, Ratty?
With a heavy heart, I made the decision to replace my boots. Even though they've been to the playa 5 times and still look pretty darn close to brand new (thanks to Dr. Marten's Wonder Balsam), I discovered that it was the boots that have likely been the source of my foot pain. I always thought a good-fitting boot was kind of snug, and so that's what I've worn. What I wasn't factoring in was things like doubling up socks on long days or cold nights takes up lots more space, or that feet tend to swell throughout the day, and that as I got older or did more walking I might need some kind of arch-tastic reinforcement. My boots, while awesome, didn't have room to accommodate any of that... and so I'd get sore feet after doing a lot of walking around. I had previously written it off as just a thing that happens as you get older, but I recently discovered... that's probably not the case.
So new boots are on the way. They're the same boots, except the 'work' version (with steel toe), but larger. And I ordered an insert that should give me the reinforcement I need so my feet are as happy as the rest of me throughout the burn

Got my camo fanny pack for the Playa today. Should be able to carry all my day adventure supplies and radio in it. Replaces my single pocket pack.

I found that as I got older, I was having the same problem. To my surprise, it turned out that my feet had gotten physically bigger. Then I learned that this is a common thing for people when they get to their 50's/60's. I ended up having to buy all my newer shoes a full size longer.
