CAMP JUICY needs campers
CAMP JUICY! we make smoothies Noon-4 and invite DJs from al over the playa.
Please send me a message about joining, we have a limited number of spaces available ,and need to raise money.
Our camp size is 51+, and we are very popular in the afternoons, and dark at night.
Our last placement was 4:45@A, expecting similar placement in 4:30 sector.

We are an Aussie and a Brit coming from Australia to Burning Man for the very first time.
Very interested in a camp, as we have heard its a must to make a contribution to the city

Re: CAMP JUICY needs campers
While joining a camp is certainly OK, you heard wrong. It's not a must.
If you want to contribute to the community there are plenty of ways.
You can volunteer to be a Lamplighter, you can volunteer to work at Arctica, any number of departments need people.

I heard a must, as in maximising your experience. If we dont find a camp, we will still volunteer and we have some pretty good gifting ideas too.
But joining a camp sounds like the bees knees, the wasps ankles and the hornets hips

Re: CAMP JUICY needs campers
That's absolute bullshit.
Joining a camp does not mean your experience is maximized.
It can actually suck. You don't know these people. There is such a thing as "camp drama".
Often, a few people end up doing all the work while most just party and squat. Often, many of the members of a camp leave earlier than the others, leaving them with all the teardown work and frequently bags and piles of trash to deal with.
Camps can be great. And I'll tell you, most of the great ones have been through all that shit with complete strangers and they work well now that they only camp with friends.
Camps aren't hotels. Burning Man is an event that stresses self reliance. You should show up with everything you need. Depending on a camp to provide for you isn't how it works.
I don't know who told you it was such a "must" to join a camp. It isn't. What happens is you will meet plenty of people and make plenty of friends whether you joined some random camp or not, you'll roam the playa, and you'll end up finding out who you'd like to camp with.

Re: CAMP JUICY needs campers
Yeah ive done a bit of reading up and im pretty keen on the whole radical self reliance part. We do a fair bit of that here is australia, so not really an issue.
I had freinds who went a few years ago and said they felt like the camps were where it was at and i should try and join one. The term 'must' is an expression eg. "You must try one of these cocktails".
Missing out on a spot in a camp isnt going to tarnish our experience. However, its at least worth a try. One of the cool things that drew me to bm was the sense of community that is developed between 70 000 people. It a shame that some people take advantage of that. However also expected with a city this size.
It sounds like your past experiences have left you a bit jaded. Thats a shame because I am full of optimism and excitement as a virgin burner.
Thanks for your insight captain goddamit. Wish me luck

Re: CAMP JUICY needs campers
New Burner Mistake Number One: having expectations of how things will be. How things are is almost always different.
Sometimes not being chained to a camp makes your experience more interactive, free, and fun.
I'm not saying it's bad to be with a camp, but I'm telling you it's not the must-do thing that makes it possible to "contribute".
The reality of most of the time at most camps is hanging around doing nothing.
A camp is usually not a whirlwind of excitement and activity all the time.
Ive gone by myself, no "camp" and had a great time.
I've gone with a camp and ended up spending all my time at another camp.
I've gone with a camp and ended up moving to a different camp on Day One.
I've gone with a camp and wished I'd been somewhere else.
I'm with a camp now, ONLY because they are my friends who I specifically wanted to camp with.
All the camps I've ever been with have had the usual camp drama problems. The reason the one I'm in now works is because we only camp with friends. You know, like you do any other time you go on a camp trip!

Re: CAMP JUICY needs campers
Fortunately, there are many different ways to camp, as well as experience the event. While we've all got our own opinions, there's no one right answer. This site has some great resources for going it alone, planning your own camp, or finding a group of like-minded folks to throw in with.
Salter, that sounds like quite an adventure - welcome aboard! If you guys are interested in finding out more about this camp, you should click on the contact button below the original poster's name, and send him a private message through the site for more info or to ask questions.

Re: CAMP JUICY needs campers
I am with trilobyte on this one. This will be our first burn and we joined a camp. The Wife is a free-wheeling spirit and will go about her way and do whatever she does. She does not like plans. She likes to go with the wind, or in this case, the dust.
Me, I am too anal to not have a plan before I get there. It is not so much an expectation as it is giving me something to do as I suck at virtually every social avenue available to people. I'll fill my week helping with the camp. A lot of people would say I am going to miss out on the BM experience, but for me that will be the experience.
About the only issue I have is deciding what time of day to volunteer for things needing done. I am not a morning person, so I have to be careful about that lest everyone see a mushroom cloud forming at camp from me exploding.

I would like to treat my gas pedal as a binary operator and get the cooperation of everyone in front of me!

Hey Camp Juicy! I come down from Canada every year and would love to DJ at your camp! I mix pretty well anything, usually keeping it around electro swing and house, always fun upbeat music especially for a camp with Juicy in the title. This year I'll be coming down with another dj. We can play together, back to back sets or throughout the week.

I don't think they're requesting DJs. I think they said they want campers. You can still be a DJ, but they want you to be camping with them -- and that doesn't necessarily mean you get to play. They may also invite DJs -- to play as DJs -- but it doesn't mean those DJs camp with them, or that if you camp with them that you're invited to be a DJ, even if you're a DJ.

We are compiling a list and will invite as many DJs as we can.
We also need campers to live with us, or sponsors to donate and do whatever.
Our gift to you is a spot in our camp, we hope you'll help us out financially.

Re: CAMP JUICY needs campers
Maybe it's just because I've never experienced the joy of participating with a registered theme camp... but I couldn't imagine camping with a bunch of people I don't know. Every year I've brought my own camp set up and made friends with the people around me... and it has always been awesome. My camp has grown organically through people I've met at previous burns (plus the addition of a few family members) and it has been a lot of fun. Not having a place where I can retreat and get away from strangers during the heat of the day, or when I just want some peace, would drive me a little crazy. Some day perhaps I'll give it a try, but at the moment I love that Slayer camp is just a a small group of my friends. I read tons of posts from people who make it seem like finding a camp to join is as much a part of the burn as packing water and it's always a little surprising to me that more people don't have the desire to have their own space where they're free to create something of their own. You'll be surrounded by people everywhere you go all week long... it's nice to have a place to get away from the madness for a while.
Plus I've witnessed the occasional drunken loudmouth and I'm always SO happy to know that they're someone else's problem. I don't want that guy stumbling around my camp trying to drink my blue gatorade without asking.

^^^ I second this notion.
Sooner or later, it will get real strange...

I am a female virgin burner by way of LA this year, and think it would be most safe and beneficial to at least have a camp to sort of check in with. I am all team all day and would love any advice. I am also open to roaming.
Re: CAMP JUICY needs campers
Welcome to ePlaya. The land of many opinions. I've never joined a camp. I make friends with other people camped around me. If you are arriving by plane or bus then a camp would be beneficial. Driving in, it's not necessary. If you can't figure out the survival guide and lug all the recommended equipment, then join a camp. Personally I would take that 'camp dues' money and buy some really cool gear. A shade sail, collapsible hammock, solar lighting, small propane stove and lantern etc...
Camp Juicy I hope you find the perfect camp members and have a super burn this year.
