I will not fear. Fear is the mind killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone . . . there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Re: Anyone need a Chef?
When looking for a camp to join, I think it's a good idea to browse through the theme camp boards to see who's recruiting members. Since it's still really early in the season, you may also want to take a look at last year's published partial list of theme camps and villages. Find something that interests you, then reach out to that group.
in a culture that places value on radical self reliance, being able to take the initiative to find and reach out to a camp you have an interest in speaks volumes. If you're going to post a 'seeking camp' thread, you may want to provide more information. It's great that you can cook, but what about building stuff? Do you have any camping experience? Are you interested in helping a prospective camp with work weekends or painting parties in your area (and what is that area)? That kind of stuff isn't necessarily a requirement for many camps, but can be a big plus for camps who may be considering taking on new members.
Good luck in connecting with the right group!

Re: Anyone need a Chef?
What's important is WHO you camp with, if you're going to camp in someone else's camp.
Important item number one is whether you like the people in the camp and are really into their way of doing things, and their "theme".
Good luck, and wow 14 years is a long time to wait!

Looking To Join A Camp In San Diego
I am looking to join a camp for this years BM that is local to San Diego or Southern California. I'm looking for a group that I can actively participate in during the year. This will be my second year at BM. I went solo my first year and now I am looking to experience Burning Man with a camp. I am a young entrepreneur & adventurer based in San Diego looking for a fun camp/project. Thanks in advance!
PS. I have reached out to a couple of camps, but they were already full for the year.

Re: newbs looking to be adopted, any veteran willing to help?
+1 for this. Check it out for your major city and link from there to a Facebook page. From there you can find events, chill, and get to know people.some seeing eye wrote:Hey nio_g1, welcome to ePlaya. There are many threads you can search on ePlaya for finding a camp and our debates on camp or solo.
Have you connected with your regional burning man group? http://regionals.burningman.org I hear you have a good one there. And have you reached out in your personal networks to see which friends are going this year?
As the Captain notes, you don't want camp drama to add stress to your experience with a bunch of strangers.
Re: Looking To Join A Camp In San Diego
Welcome to eplaya. You should stop by the greeters thread and introduce yourself. It's the first step in getting a camp to want you. Tell the world about your skills, your strong points, your burning dreams. Then stick around and get to know us. Lots of info here. 6 months will fly by and "Hello Playa". The camp threads will start popping up soon. (Now that they have figured out the ticket situation.) You can also search locally through Face Book. I bet there's plenty of SD burners looking for YOU.

If you're not in there already, here's their FB group.

Also, make sure to get a ticket for YOUtopia in October. That's the place to really connect with SD camps.

Prove yourself to be useful by participating in art locally. Many camps will "miraculously" find room for somebody who has demonstrated their energy, talents (whatever talents they may be), and winning personality.SdSurfer wrote: PS. I showed up at the weekly burner meet-up in San Diego several years ago. Had lovely chats with lots of people. A day later, I wound up working just a handful of hours on last-minute improvements to the CORE art. I didn't volunteer because I expected to get anything out of it, but I sure did: I learned how to use power tools, had a hell of a lot of fun, met the locals, and injected some much-needed newbie energy into the project in the last stretch. On-playa, the CORE project was suddenly much more meaningful, because I knew the people involved, and their hearts.

2 Virgin Burners from Australia (one British living in Aus) looking for a camp to volunteer at.
Hey we are a 24yr old couple from Australia and Britain. We love to travel and meet new people and experience new things. In fact we met in indonesia and are travel the Americas and Europe after the burn.
We know lots of drinking games from around the world and are happy to teach and learn more. We're good fun and open minded.
We really want to find a good camp of freinds to contribute too and live the burning man culture.
Virgin Burners.
We arrive in the states on the 25th of August so our contribution will be our time during the burn.
We are bringing a tent and plenty of supplies.
Please make contact if you have room in your camp.
Thanks Michael & Hayley

1st Timer from Spokane, WA interested in joining a camp
I have never participated in Burning Man, but I'm determined to make it this year. I live in Spokane,WA and will most likely be making the trip from here by myself, and meeting up with a friend in Sacramento, CA on the way. He has never been either. We are 24-25, and are not completely new to fairs/festivals. When we both lived in Spokane we attended many barter fairs together. If you are unfamiliar, they attract a similar type of people/community. We have both had trans-formative experiences there. Now we have grown and are searching to grow our spirits as well. Neither of us have an outstanding knowledge about any one subject. We know how to work hard though, and you won't have to ask us to do it. Both of us have the gift of gab. We have been friends over a decade, and have a lot of stories to share. I would consider us both creative. I write and do rap battles. He writes and has made some music. I'm sure we will be inspired to express ourselves in other ways too though. Very uninhibited and open to new people and ways of thinking. I'm trying not to ramble on, so if you have any other questions please feel free to ask. I will check back on here, and my email is [email protected]. Thanks for reading all that and for any replys/info.

Spokane burners, welcome to ePlaya and Burning Man!
You are far, but not so far, from the Seattle, Washington regional: http://regionals.burningman.org/regiona ... a/seattle/.
And maybe there is a East Washington/West Idaho regional campout, or you could start one!

Re: Two 1st Timers from Spokane, WA interested in joining a camp
Greetings from a WA "coastie".
One comment: the type of people at BM is NOT the same as Barter Fair. Those are soap-making hippies. Burning man isn't a hippie fest at all. It's closer to techie meets Mad Max.
That may not be quite it, but it's definitely closer to it than Barter Fair.

Re: Two 1st Timers from Spokane, WA interested in joining a camp
Thx for the welcome, I had a feeling some one may touch on the barter fair comment haha. Since I've never been, I obviously am not familiar with the people there. Barter fair is just the closest thing I could think to compare. Not that there is anything comparable. I like techie/mad max though.Captain Goddammit wrote:Greetings from a WA "coastie".

I've had an eye on those Seattle events, but thanks for the heads up. It's not out of the question to start a burn near where I live, but my focus is the main Burn this year. I plan on putting quite a bit of effort into it all.some seeing eye wrote:Spokane burners, welcome to ePlaya and Burning Man!

We are always open to people from Sacramento, but I think BDC&WB is too Republican for these guys. Good luck I guess.

" It's not out of the question to start a burn near where I live, " ---- We have gotten that taken care of already. An event in Spokane and one in Tri-Cities (3C).
There are a bunch of us in 3C, as well as a bunch in Spokompton. Look on FB for Tri-Cities Burners and )'( Spokane Burners )'( join that group, then you can find all of us. We usually have a after the burn decompression party called Freezer Burn in Nov sometime in the 3C. Last year we had the Fire Dept come and extinguish the 16 foot Rocket I built to burn (Theme was "Kitties from Outer Space"), it was Fn excellent! (Note to Self: Don't burn huge art pieces in town backyards), There is also a Spokane Burners Wildwood Decompression, it a camping event up in the hills north of your location, They burned 4 unique art pieces in 2015 including "Goat-Man"!
Check us all out on the facemuck.
PS. In the 3C, we have a camp, but it is usually just an Art Support camp, meaning if you want to work your Fn ass off all week building and picking up charcoal, screws and ash, then by all means come camp with us. Bring all your own gear and booze and you'll be fine. Do you have a welder????
