Vehicle passes do what?
Re: Vehicle passes do what?
Is this the part of the thread where we have an earnest discussion about using the train tracks?

Possibly - this thread does have an abundance of the same old complaints and arguments as seen in previous years.

Yeah, that's what happens when inane processes are thought up by idiots in charge and they don't listen to feedback and the same stupid shit keeps happening. People keep complaining!trilobyte wrote:Possibly - this thread does have an abundance of the same old complaints and arguments as seen in previous years.
Seriously though bro, complaining about complainers is so passé.
ETA: I think a discussion about using the train tracks would be fantastic.

On second thought you should probably just lock this one up.

Re: Vehicle passes do what?
IIRC someone on here has quite a bit of RR experience and understands what it takes to get deliveries to remote switching points like Gerlach. I believe there is a pretty high threshold.... Obviously all the pipe for that natural gas line that was staged at Gerlach made that threshold. Logistically though everything enters BRC by vehicle.A-RockLeFrench wrote: ETA: I think a discussion about using the train tracks would be fantastic.
Using a shipping container as an example.... Load in a Far off place-- Truck to rail hub and load on train-- RR does it's thing and groups common destination containers and ships them to Gerlach when there is enough to make a stop and switching operation make sense-- Newly hired employees of Black Rock Shipping Cooperative unload the staged cars with a rail to truck straddle carrier using millions of dollars of improvements and equipment--- Truck delivers container to playa and it is unloaded and staged in container row or placed in a registered theme camp, mutant vehicle camp or art support camp and so on---You pay first truck, RR, BRSC and pay them all again to get shipping container back home. That would be amazingly time consuming and expensive.
Point to point trucking makes way more sense. It's going to take a hell of an internally imposed transportation constraint or road transportation failure to make that happen. Feel free to tear apart my unprofessional opinion.
Vehicle passes do what? They change the culture of the event.

Re: Vehicle passes do what?
It was explicitly stated by the BMORG that the vehicle pass program was a compromise made with Nevada authorities and the BLM in order to continue having the event in the Black Rock Desert. Nobody likes it, but other suggestions like widening the road or contracting an Amtrak train (is that even possible?) and THEN organizing and funding transportation from the tracks to BRC or even more burdensome and costly, and have been discussed to death for the past few years. I HIGHLY doubt you or I or anyone could come up with something new to say about it all at this point. I certainly haven't seen anything new on this current thread.A-RockLeFrench wrote:Yeah, that's what happens when inane processes are thought up by idiots in charge and they don't listen to feedback and the same stupid shit keeps happening. I'm not going to say it's impossible to bus in and provide both sufficient infrastructure to support yourself as well as art and/or a project to share, but it's outside of my personal abilities.Captain Goddammit wrote:That's the big conundrum.
