Using a none state ID

Post by Rebel514 » Thu Apr 21, 2016 4:11 pm

I know the topic of ID's on the playa has been covered time and time again, however I have a more specific ID question.

In addition to the colour photocopy of my drivers license that will be taped to my cup, can I use a non government ID (example; university student card) as a backup physical ID? I don't want to carry my real physical lisence or passport, but I am concerned that a photocopy may not be enough proof for some camps because I look very young (however I am over legal drinking age).

Thanks in advance.

I manage a bar in a casino. Be a grown up. Bring a current license with your picture on it. Not your expired brothers license. Not a paper temporary. Or just bring some photo copy that you could have easily put your picture over someone elses and be prepared to NOT be served. It's your choice.

What non-governmental IDs bother to print the age and/or birthday of the person? None of my university IDs I was issued had anything more than a photo of myself and my name on it; the photo was from my freshman year, when I was underage. My work badge would be equally as worthless unless the bar has a badge reader. Do library cards these days have your age on them to keep you out of the adult sections?

Even if the pertinent information were on the card, who is going to verify that your "non-governmental ID" has any validity or is even real? Is it a real card from the Juilliard School of Dermatology? Maybe if you're Dr. Van Nostrand, but not some young person in burner attire.

At our bar we won't even accept photocopied driver licenses because we don't know what the undercovers might pull on us. Just how it goes.

Go buy one of those card holders on Amazon for $7 and make it into a fashionable accessory. It's an opportunity to craft something fun.

I don't look underage, but I carry a state issued, but expired license with me on the playa. It's not valid to rent a car, but it IS a real ID and it's REALLY me on it. You might consider getting a replacement license from the state, and keep one of them with you on the playa.

ok, if the bar asks your age, IT IS ILLEGAL TO LIE. at least in the state of nevada so the whole you have to show id thing is bull shit. now if you have reason to beleive the person is telling fibs there may be an issue

personally i always carry my own booze anyway.

I wouldn't worry about it much. Make a couple copies of your DL and tape one to your cup, maybe carry another one in your bag or whatever. If a bar won't accept your cup, walk 20 steps in any direction and there will be another bar.

Awe, you were such a young, toothy meat-cake your freshman year...

How do you make it through the other 51 weeks without losing your ID?

Do not under any circumstances bring your real ID with you out on the Playa. Use a paper color copy and nothing else. If a bar won't serve you, go to another bar. Or better yet, bring your own alcohol. It's just not worth the cost and hassle of replacing a license.

How about using one of these ID holders and attaching it to the inside of your backpack? This would also be helpful if your lifeless body is found out in the deep playa. 8)

According to this site, you can use two forms of other ID - one of which must contain a photo (the list of acceptable forms is on the page).

Do understand, though, that when you say "in addition to" that is not entirely correct. While some camps may choose to accept a photocopy of an ID, it's not considered to be a valid legal ID (and if a bar accepted a photocopy of an ID from an undercover officer, they would almost certainly be cited).

That said, I'd recommend carrying whatever you're comfortable with carrying - and as others said, if that doesn't pass muster at a particular bar... don't get mad at them (they're obligated to check), just keep going. And of course, you're also welcome to BYO and serve yourself.

I carry the temporary paper driver's license I was issued the last time I got my license renewed. It's legal ID--but not so bad if I lose it.

I also bring some of my own alcohol though, because I don't like asking for drinks.

If you are not responsible enough to not lose you drivers license or state ID, you should not be fucking drinking at random Playa bars.
