Hey friends, does anyone know if the sketchup plans mentioned on this page are actually available for download anywhere?

Have you tried clicking on the Sketchup link that they gave you on the site that you posted?

Yes. I recently inquired about this with our placement coordinator (6:00), and he inquired at Bmorg and was told that this is only made available for Bmorg Department camps. It's not made available to theme camps or any non-Bmorg camp. :(

@Roundabout: thanks for clearing that up

@Meat Hunter: that link takes you to Sketchup download page, not templates

It is weird though that the website makes it sound as if it's available for everyone. There is really no point to advertise its availability, when it is really not.

That is weird. It's not like these are trade secrets or something. Maybe they just don't want to provide support for them?

Alex,

I apologize for suggesting that link. I was not sniping at you.

I am not much of a computer person a'tall and I thought that you might have accidentally overlooked the blue color of the text -- I did that first time that I read it.

I opened the link and I do not know the difference between Download and Templates.

fwiw there are heaps of great models available in the Sketchup 3D warehouse that are relevant to camp planning.... I'm not sure that the BMorg kit would really have a lot extra that would be useful to a normal theme camp anyway.

I model our camp in advance every year in Sketchup (although I don't actually use it for the plans I submit to Placement)

I think the mention of a camp was a holdover from either the really early days of sketchup, or when there was a public library file that had been contributed by an individual that may no longer be involved with the event. Regardless, it wasn't very great. You could either have much better luck searching 3D clipart sites for generic objects (RV's, box trucks, cars, tents, etc), or just use basic primitive shapes. Squares and rectangles for your vehicles and shade structures, half a sphere for domes, etc.

The main thing you're trying to do is block out your space - this is for your own planning purposes, and also to show the placement team that you have a coherent camp plan. Ideally one that doesn't do an RV fortress, and shows things like fuel safety, and a fire lane (if your camp's big enough to need one), and that you'll be planning to have all your campmates' vehicles contained within the boundaries of your camp. It doesn't have to be a 3D app, you can look at doing a 2D layout as well. Illustrator is great but costs money, but there are lots of cheap or free alternatives for 2D illustration apps. And keeping it even more simple, you can draw your layout on a piece of graph paper and then take a picture with your phone's camera. As long as it's well lit and everything's nice and legible, you're good to go.

Great pics, mattcamp! I use a 3D app to render my camp as well, but when it comes to my camp layout for the placement application I do that in Illustrator.

I realize that the application form has closed by now, and hopefully you got something submitted before that deadline. If you're unhappy with what you did, or you have significant changes you can send an update to the placement team via [email protected]. Make sure the subject line has your camp name (as it appears on your questionnaire) and your first choice of what sector you were seeking placement... that way they can route it to your placer and make sure the updated layout gets added.
