New to you

Post by KlownFace » Tue May 10, 2016 1:32 pm

Hiya.
I'm new to all of this, known of the culture for years & have friends who are involved but I've never experienced it myself.
I'm very interested In the culture and lifestyle.
I think I share in many of the same values as this movement and I have a strong desire to change my life in a drastic way, I'm an artist which draws me into this and am working my way toward a life without money... Something more natural, something far away from the machine.
Anyway, nice to be here and I hope this becomes a forum I can really get into.
if you studied your Floyd properly you'd know that pigs can fly.

I think you've read way too much into this expensive desert party.

Hi KlownFace! . . . The Burn is whatever you'll make of it. For some, being a Burner is a lifestyle, for others it's a really fun camping trip, for still others it's a boiling-hot freezing-cold hellscape, never to be revisited. :D

Welcome!

Not to discourage you, but this may not be the event for you if you're seeking a life without money, and something more natural. As "decommodified" as this event claims to be, everything is made possible in this event because of resources people are willing to spend on the event, which also includes money and commodities. Even the tickets are commodities, and they have caused great strife because of their scarcity and value.

Also, this event is about as unnatural as a place could be. It is a city built in an inhospitable wasteland that exists for only about 2 weeks. Everything is artificial and transported in. There are also machines everywhere, from the constant hum of generators, to parked cars, to mutant vehicles, to mechanical art. Even the music that emanates throughout the city is generally mechanical in sound and feel. At night, the event feels more like Blade Runner than Avatar.

So I dunno, are you at the right event?

On the other hand, if you want a life without money, going to Burning Man a few times can certainly get rid of a lot of it.

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!
Elderberry

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Ain't that the truth! Also stuck with a lot of semi-ruined commodities that only get used for the burn.
