In some ways I'd agree with you. The skills that are necessary for successful monogamous relationships are needed in spades for polyamorous ones.

On the other hand, some people are not well suited to monogamy, and so will never be experts at ordinary relationships, which are contrary to their nature. For those people, expertise (or at least success) at poly relationships may well come more easily than success at mono relationships, simply because the poly model fits them better.

I suspect my only qualification is that I don't seem to possess a jealousy gene. Maybe that's a start, but history indicates that the statistical likelihood of multiple partners going for me simultaneously is near zero.

A lack of jealousy does come in very handy!

I know what you mean about the statitstical likelihood, having had much the same consideration myself, but you might be pleasantly surprised what happens when you hang around poly people. I know I have been!

Different species have different needs. Even among primates it varies from species to species. Bonobo chimpanzees are very poly and bisexual. The more "common" chimp has relations that are similar to serial monogamy with some openess. Gorillas have harems.

Human beings have evolved towards monogamy or at least serial monogamy. This was a necessary adaptation that ensured human infants and children, that are helpless much longer than other primates, have the protection of two parents. Also, female humans became more sexually receptive (not just during esterous) to keep the males around longer.

Ewwwww. Crispy skin is the only way to go. Crunching through the skin to get at the delicate tender flesh underneath is much more pleasurable.
