New SF Burner Looking for Friends

Post by jermy » Sun May 15, 2016 7:46 pm

Hi y'all,

I am going to my first Burn this year. I managed to get myself a ticket, but I have no one to go with. It might sound strange, and it makes me sad because I live in SF, and all around me, people are going to Burning Man with their big camps or their big group of friends, but I just haven't been able to find my home. It is a lonely feeling.

That's why I am here. I am here to make friends. And I hope that I find one or two friends that I can go to Burning Man with, or if I find a camp that I can join! Cheers!

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!

Jermy, Welcome. Don't be sad. Picture yourself in a camp full of people fighting, drunk, sleep deprived and bitchy. Now picture your camp. A lovely island paradise. The soft boom-boom-boom of music wafting over you. Make some friends here by investigating your interests. Pick out a volunteer job and register for it on your burner profile. Make a list of all the eplayans that you want to meet and find their camps. (That's eplayan BINGO. Be sure and get a card.) Pick up an 8 by 10 ePlaya sign at my camp. (425 and H at the event. Come. Have a beer or lemonade.) That way you may be visited by others. You can be lonely or really glad that you camped alone. That is up to you.

Another option to explore would be joining a village. Hushville is exceptional for solo burners who have no generator needs.

Hi there. I'm also in SF, also a new burner, and in a similar situation - I have 2 groups of friends, each with a camp, but for various reasons (e.g. the likelihood of camp drama and noise) I'm considering alternatives.

I've been looking into Hushville, but am a bit apprehensive about showing up there without knowing a single soul. I've joined the email list though.

Anyway, if you'd like to discuss camping alone together, let me know. :)

Hushville is very welcoming to strangers, don't be shy. Just remember, you need to pre-register. If you register and find a different place to camp, that is cool. Registration provides the village as an option.

welcome and remember, it's about making new friends. I'm sure you'll find one or two or 20...

I'll tell you what you're doing RIGHT.
You're looking for friends to camp with, because you want to camp with friends.
It seems every other new person comes on looking for a camp to join because they want to be provided for. They want to know first and foremost what amenities they can get from a camp.
You're doing it right. You'll make friends.

Maybe I'll try again in 2017.

Hey guys I am also in a similar situation! I am a first time SF Burner going to burning man this year! looking for camp suggestions and advice. If any future burners want to meet in SF let me know and we can grab a beer or something!

Best,
