NO! You would defeat the most of the benefit of dynamic rigging by doing that way. Think about a sail boat. Would you rig a sail on a sail boat with bungee chords? (Of course not). Bungee chords are static rigging, which places much more static stress on each grommet.

Figured this recent thread on shade a good place to post this.

BlackRockHardware has their annual "early purchase" discount starting today, and their design and price just can't be beat. They are burners also. Last year they even had pick up in Gerlach available. I used cross bracing with my 12x20, and covered all 5 sides with the material they sell at BlackRockHardware, which has strong grommets and the material itself is strong. I've been super impressed with the 12x20....who else but burners would go to the trouble of using a connector to join a 10' + 2' with a connector to make the structure so much better than a 10'x20 ?

Worth noting, for anyone who might miss it - that link states that picking it up in Gerlach is no longer an option. It's West Oakland or nothing.

You rang, Ma'am?

40' bus. You can see just the front foot or two sticking out.
Eight 10' x 20' tarps (four gray, four white), except one on each side is narrowed to 8'.
Five hoops over roof of bus for air gap.
The ten crosswise pipes are chain link fence rail.
Outboard supports are construction scaffolding, lagged to the ground.
1/4" rope is laced all the way on each side of each tarp, to distribute load evenly on grommets (as mentioned earlier).

The 10 x 20 tarps are actually a little smaller, which leaves gaps for air to escape. I started out a few years ago with one 40 x 60!

Shading the bus itself, with air gap, completely eliminates excessive heat inside.

I'll find some more photos.

Different year. Didn’t need shade on driver side, so ran those tarps to the ground to shade the bus (south side).

Passenger side. 2014.

Detail of air gap. A few years ago.
In fact, that one 38 x 40 tarp.
Much neater installation now.

Thanks for the link. Oakland pickup is a bitter pill.
