Dissatisfied Australian Looking For An Education On Utopian Societal Possibilities

Post by anarchy mistress » Sat May 28, 2016 6:07 am

Greetings beautiful, complex beings!

I'd like to take this moment to formally introduce myself to your wonderful community.
My name is Leyla and I come to you as a Burn Virgin.
I am currently living a comfortable (too comfortable) existence in Melbourne, Australia and recently came to the realisation that I was inherently bored with the life I'd manage to build for myself here.
I am a young woman with a true purpose in this life. My existence is based off of the culmination and correlation of ideologies and philosophies of the past and present to set about the creation of a new society for a new age. I aim to attempt to understand/inherently know as many people as humanly possible. To understand what motivates and inspires and to learn from that deeply and sincerely.
This is the true reason why I had such creeping dissatisfaction at my comfortable life. Climaxing in the decision to leave my job and go in search for unique and alluring experiences surrounding myself and learning from individuals with different perspectives/points of view.
This has in turn led me to Burning Man.. For where better for me to meet/understand/learn from others dissatisfied at society then at the original utopian make-shift community.
The core concepts and principles of the Burning Man movement resonates with me to the absolute core. It is a magnificant personification of life and something I am overwhelmingly excited to behold.
Would love to connect with any one of you, whoever you may be, as I'll be undertaking this expedition solo and I recognise as a first-time visitor I have much to understand about the nature of the Burn.

Thank you and perhaps I'll be meeting some of you relatively soon!

Good god woman. It's just a camping trip/party. And it's sure as hell no utopian society!

Is not the co-operative/collaborative nature of it inherently utopian? I feel as if the unbridled expressions of creativity and love on display could encapsulate aspects of a utopian society. I'm not going there looking for answers and I understand at the end of the day it's a party in the desert but it's also a statement against our current world.. is it not?

Its a wasteful, unsustainable party that relies heavily on traditional commerce to exist. Everything is running on gas & diesel generators. Tons of supplies get trucked in.
It's pretty much reserved for people with a good amount of disposable income, it costs most people at least a few thousand dollars.
People blast ridiculously huge sound systems and dance, others drive around in vehicles they built. There are bars everywhere.
Most people who go several times get tired of it and quit. There's a lot of (documented) turnover. Too much money, too much trouble.
I've been in more confrontations and fights at Burning Man than at home over the years I've attended.
Everyone does not love everyone else.
Shit gets stolen and vandalized.
Its a big party.
Its fun. I'm gonna go again this year, but I know exactly what I'm getting into.

Capt. is so right. But if the Dissatisfied Australian Anarchy Mistress wants it to be Utopia, maybe she can make it hers. I tell casual acquaintances that it's an art festival. I tell close friends it's a party in the desert. Because it is.

surely, we are responsible, and are the only ones who can find, our own Utopia.
In that, sure, it is, or can be.
It is an event of much possibility.
But remember, the power of "possibility" carries positive and negative (perspective will determine which is which), and thus, be prepared.
Leave your expectations at the pavement, prepare for the worst, hope for the best.
Manifestations of the existential, powers of the ether and the dreams of the human animal, can combine there is way unsuspected.

Come by the Eplaya Meet & Greet Wednesday evening at Barbie Death Camp & Wine Bistro and maybe we can find utopia in the back of my RV.

You may find some aspects of what you're looking for there, but it seems to me your expectations far exceed reality.

You understand, anarchy mistress, I was referring to the event in general in my previous post. As to the back of Doc's RV, well it doesn't get any more utopianish than that.

Hey. I like Elderberry's abbreviated greetings. Non judgmental. Non discriminatory. A friendly acknowledgement to new faces in the crowd. No Hugo winner but maybe someday a Bulwer-Lytton award.

Welcome. Maybe you'll find Utopia, perhaps Dystopia, but in dust we trust. Some years you can't count on much more than the dust. Everything and nothing. Tabla rasa state of mind, like the blank playa itself, is my preferred path. Not so easy after all these years, but I try.

I cannot vouch for the back of the RV, but the meet n greet is exceptional.

Didn't the utopian society fail ultimately?
