Howdy from an Austin Girl with a Desert Heart
Hello there.
Like many of you, I am a newcomer to the Burning Man community. I found my way here through many years of connecting with people through my love of music, and also, rather surprisingly, through the journey of becoming abstinent from alcohol. In April, I went to Further Future by myself, knowing I needed to find something, and to leave something there. I thought I was just going to a music festival, but it was so much deeper than that. I had an experience in the Moapa Valley desert which was nothing short of life changing. I had suffered from high anxiety and insomnia and found in those three days a relief that I had been searching for for years.
It was all due to human connection and being invited into the beautiful, open, generous community of Burners I met there.
I've heard over and over from my veteran friends that when it's time, BM becomes a force in your life that you can't ignore. That is definitely how it feels for me now. When I returned from my desert weekend, I was invited to join some CA friends in their camp this year. I've read through so many posts here, and have been amazed at the diverse array of talents, skills, and stories that bring people together in the spirit of sharing and community. It is something that I am very much looking forward to experiencing myself in August. I have a natural talent for logistics, organizing, planning, and details, so that's becoming my role in my little camp. And while I still need a ticket (like a LOT of other people), I'm working on building our experience with my campmates, knowing it may very well end up that I don't get to go this year. I'm okay with that, and it certainly doesn't dim my desire and need to become a contributing, positive member of this community. Solving problems and working with others is what I am best at, and I feel like that attitude can only be an asset when applied to Burning Man. I hope I will get lucky, and I hope you do too.
On the more artistic side, I am a writer and a web designer. If you're interested in nerdy blogs about better living through music, figuring our how to be a better human, having an amazing life experience without booze, overcoming trauma, and various other sordid tales of love and loss, visit my blog We Are Standing on the Edge. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with those of us who are new and trying to find our place. I hope to meet some of you in person on the playa!

Is that a sex joke? That's totally a sex joke, isn't it. Well, I suppose I walked right into that. I just don't really feel entitled to be there, that's all I meant. As cosmic and mystical as I can get, I have no illusions that I'm going to manifest a ticket out of thin air. I hope it happens, and if it does, I will consider myself very lucky indeed.

Welcome.
Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me
