Yeah mon, up before the sun is the way to go, my MO most days, even on the playa, that is, if I sleep.

Hey Heli - when the peeps were chattering about the lack of sun and seasonal asshat distemper (or whatever it's called), you suggested a road trip to visit you at -232. That sounds like a fucking outstanding idea: an eplaya rendevous. Be careful what you wish for.

Well... mornin' all.... So, DVD got axed for a month... go figure... and no, I don't think he's violent, I just think he doesn't have a governor on his thought process. If it comes to his head, it goes to his fingers (and keyboard)... of course, I don't have a problem with that!

Coffee, please... and Heli... which post or station, or whatever the hell you call them, are you assigned to? I haven't been in Death Valley in years, but when I was there (probably before you were born) it was one of the most spectacular things I had ever witnessed. Now, years later, it still ranks right up there...

Hey all.

Feeling a bit under the weather this morning. I think I'm actually just exhausted. Legs ache a bit. Maybe too much caffeine. Anyway, just a shot this morning. Whatever.
It's going to be alright.

the Miami Herald wrote:Brother Timothy Diener, Winemaker, Dies

Associated Press

NAPA, Calif. - Brother Timothy Diener, who helped shape the California wine industry as longtime cellarmaster for the Christian Brothers' wines and brandies, has died at age 94.

Diener died Tuesday at the Christian Brothers Mont La Salle novitiate.

Born Anthony George Diener in Elizabeth, N.J., in 1910, he worked for more than 50 years at the Mont La Salle Vineyards in the Napa Valley, retiring in 1989 when the Brothers of the Christian Schools sold their wine and brandy-making operation to the Heublein Fine Wine Group.

"He was a legend. He was the heart of the industry," prominent vinter Robert Mondavi said of Diener at his 75th anniversary as a Christian Brother last year.

The Brothers of the Christian Schools, commonly known as the De La Salle Christian Brothers - a Roman Catholic religious order dedicated to education - had run a small business making sacramental and medicinal wines since the late 19th century. The order bought the larger Napa Valley vineyards in 1930.

Diener, then a high school chemistry teacher, was assigned to be "wine chemist" at the winery in 1935. Members of the religious order are not ordained as priests.

"I guess it was because I was big and strong and young and all that," Diener told The Napa Valley Register shortly after his retirement.

Production was then no more than 10,000 gallons a year, but with the help of German immigrant Alfred Fromm, the sales and reputation of Christian Brothers wines grew. Profits went to support the order's schools and programs.

Diener was asked if he saw a conflict between making wine and belonging to a religious order. He didn't.

"I've always been aware of the danger of abuse of wine," he said in one interview. "I've always taken the attitude that everything one does should be in moderation. We should make judicious use of God's creatures and blessings.

"All I can say is that a little wine in moderation seems to have been good for me."

And let me line up le drink de jour.

*fishy mixes up "the cream" with water and pours ten shots. She follows by lining up a chaser of "the clear" for each one, leaving them avaliable on the bar for anyone who choses to drink them.*

I hope that doesn't get Tish down on me for violating the no baseball clause.

*Tall, red clad stranger rushes in, takes a shot from the bar and downs it, then takes a clear, and downs it. He then tiptoes over to the blanket, bends down, and gently brushes his lips against the face of the huddled form within... "Gently, Darlin'..." he wispers... and then rushes back out the door*

So Burning Man tickets go on sale in a month, the cheapest starting at $10 more than last year. There wasn't any mention of a mechanism to collect additional moneys for the Jim Mason art thing. Sales starts at noon SF time instead of midnight but I think it's on a work day,.. not that that matters if I don't have a job......

* strolls in, spies shots and dumps one of each into a mug of coffee.... wraps an arm round Zule and goes to Guin's sleeping, healing self. Sprinkles some playa-pixie dust over her and lays a hand on her head for a moment, breathing in her own deep sigh... rises and contemplates Buckets new picture for a bit before donning her hat and sunglasses to face a day brimming with challenges. opens tent flap, smiles over her shoulder and heads out. *

A human space mountain heater?

No one seems to know what DVD said and to whom. (Or maybe they all do, I can't read between the lines.)

Good to see you Stuart--you've been missed.
