Structure with triangle shade tarps

Post by mudpuppy000 » Tue Jun 21, 2016 10:11 am

So they had a good deal on triangle shade tarps at Costco a while back so I ended up buying a bunch of them. I'm thinking of doing some sort of tensegrity structure with them but not sure what the best method is.
I guess the most obvious way is have a post at each point where the tarps come together and each post guyed down separately. That seems like it'd have an excessive amount of guy lines though.

Or how about posts at each of the star points and ropes tensioned inbetween them, along with a taller central post?

I was also thinking of attaching each star point to the ground, then having posts in the central hexagon holding it up.

Shooting for something that will hold up to the playa conditions, as well as not being a nightmare to set up with a limited number of people.

I use similar on my ranch. Livestock shade. I go full tensile, not tensegrity.

The sides of the triangle tend to go concave under tension so you might get gaps in the shade.

Works well in my domes tho for spot shading.

Overall I prefer NATO camo netting for Playa as primary shade.
