Zig Zag's intro
When I started being active on E-Playa some time ago, I felt so at home, I just sort of moved in without telling much about me so it seems I should rectify that.
Like many before me, Burning Man has been a calling waiting for opportunity. I remember last year streaming the live feed to my computer at work and to my TV at home knowing soon, my time was coming. They say the playa provides when you are truly ready and now those two forces have come together.
There are so many things that are attracting me to the desert, not the least of which I was born in New Mexico and miss dry desert climates now that I am a permanent fixture in the exact opposite climate of Minnesota. Not that the playa is the same a New Mexico or Texas desert, just that high and dry altitudes are not foreign to me nor is camping in the wilderness. The Boundary Waters Canoe Area wilderness is so cut off they don't allow motors in, on or even over that area.
I love art, especially big art and I love the 10 principles and how a community can thrive on them. I love adventure and exploring new places and different aspects of myself but most of all I love trying new things outside my comfort zone. I work for a small, family owned advertising and marketing agency by trade, I teach and practice yoga for fun, I am a woodworker and a painter for expression. I am 19 years sober after a pretty hard bout with alcoholism, I love people, opera, writing, bicycling, snowstorms, and I live in a 125 year old farmhouse on 3 wooded acres just North of Minneapolis.
That's the high level stuff and just to prove I am a real person and not just an avatar, here I am with my new heart shaped mirror sunglasses bought just for Burning Man!! I can't wait to meet you all face to face at the M&G!

Hola! Nice try put a face to a name. When I first started posting to eplaya I didn't introduce myself either. I just wanted to slip in and hope no one noticed. I can be shy like that...

Welcome.
Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Official Welcome, ZigZag! You are so familiar by now, 'cause of that avatar; good to have some more backstory, and 80% of your face to your name.
19 years sober is a huge amount of time, so I doubt you need my suggestions, but if by any chance you want to chat with sober people out there:

Re: Zig Zag's intro
Thank you Savannah. I appreciate this. I have had concerns about my sobriety (that's whats kept me sober this long, is being constantly aware) and connected on Facebook with Anonymous Village and Run Free. I also made some connections with some sober burners here in the Twin Cities. I decided to camp solo this year so I had the safety of my own camp to retreat to but know know where to turn if I don't feel safe. My biggest worry has been getting dosed with something without my knowledge so I plan to be diligent about carrying plenty of my own water so I never have to depend on others for that.Savannah wrote: Official Welcome, ZigZag! I still do terribly at recongizing people anyway; most people are names + writing styles to me, 'cause so few of us use recognizeable pictures.
When I meet someone I'm all, " . . . you have a face?!?! Why, this is MARVELOUS."
