Last night I was outside under the full moon watching the Minnesota Fire Collective tape their audition to perform in the inner ring on the night of burning The Man. They have been there many years in the past and their show last night was absolutely awesome.Blue_Bike wrote:Seems a little quiet in the bar tonight. But I need another margarita. Maybe everyone is outside checking out this rare Strawberry Moon. Check it out if you like this sort of thing The last one was back in '67, the Summer of Love. The next one won't be until 2062! Hippie stuff aside, me thinks it quite cool. Oh yea, here comes my margarita.
Nothing like a full moon, a summer solstice and some fire dancing to get the new season off to a great start. Now where's my (virgin) margarita?

When I grew up in Europe, these engines were used in "Speedway" motorcycle racing -- oval dirt track, no gears, no brakes. A few of us tried to introduce sidecars to that sport, but it didn't catch on.

Hello Da Bar!
I got tickets in the mail yesterday and now I am so excited.
Us easterners were always the last ones to get our tickets, but not this year huh? Our birthday boy mgb got his shipping notice, so, maybe he will get tickets on his birthday! Happy Birthday anyway! Let's celebrate everything.

Hi Zig Zag,
I see you are in Minnesota. I spent 4 1/2 months in MN last year getting my bus ready to bring back to the West Coast. I loved it there! Although, when I arrived on March 1st it was -22* F and didn't get above 0* for three weeks. I spent most of my time in the Elk River and Zimmerman areas. The people I met were really beautiful and took me into their homes as if I were family. They let me tag along on their vacations, gave me a truck to drive, and gave me a Harley to ride while I was there.
Although the friends I made there had not been to Burning Man, they truly had the inclusion and gifting parts wired. I miss them and the community there. That said, I am really happy to not be bugged by the mosquitoes that loved me also during the late spring and early summer. I got to camp in the Iron Range and see Lake superior. Great people and beauty there. And I can now honestly say I have been to Princeton and Cambridge.
I hope to be lucky enough you on the playa. Glad you enjoyed that moon also!

Re: The Bar 2016 Edition
Hooray for having gotten your tickets, MDF! With all the craziness going on lately I haven't been following too closely, so I'm not sure how they might have changed the order stuff gets shipped out at. Hopefully they're able to get everything through in less time, since I think after a few weeks it really starts to get stressful for those still waiting.
I don't miss the cold, or the bugs that you get living in other parts of the country. Or the humidity for that matter. On our recent trip back east, the humidity (which was pretty normal for this time of year) was killing Pandorra. I'm okay with adapting to the local conditions, but what was driving me nuts in Florida was all the damned air conditioning - since it was hot out the places that had air conditioning had it set to extra cold to compensate and so I constantly going back and forth between hot to cold.
Oh yeah... and belated HAPPY FUCKING BIRTHDAY to Burning Man! Yesterday marked the 30th anniversary of the burning of an effigy on Baker Beach.

Well you were certainly up in my area. I live only about 20 miles from Cambridge. I am glad you got to see the North Country, experience the spring and see the natural wonders this place has to offer. The winters can be hard especially when you hit a deep freeze like that, 3 weeks is a long stretch. I think there is a special beauty to it since we are so far North on the planet, the light has a beautiful crystalline quality and everything slows down when its that cold. And there are no bugs in winter! But by Late March I am totally over it and ready for the next season. They say the seasons have corners here and Its really true.
Also glad you got to experience Minnesota Nice. People here are generally pretty awesome. I moved here from the Gulf Coast of Texas and down there it seemed everybody was angry about something. I am originally from New Mexico and sand and chili still runs in my blood, people here think black pepper is really hot, its pretty funny.
I'll be at the M&G Wednesday night, I look forward to meeting you (and all the others too!

Zig Zag,
One more thing I wanted to mention is on one of the family camping trips that my new MN friends invited me to join them on, we went to Hoyt Lakes. There for the first time I saw the Northern Lights in person. That was a big thrill for me and will always be one of the many great memories I have of your beautiful adopted state.

Re: The Bar 2016 Edition
Morning Bar! For those either on the road or hitting the road for the Hof... safe journeys! Work and projects keep us close to home this weekend, but next week we'll be able to get away for a bit. We got to the movies last night to catch a screening of the big alien invasion blockbuster sequel... with the president in town, traffic was a little crazy but we made it before the start and had a good time. No spoilers, other than to say we had fun.
Today I'm off to go do some work on the big laser. D'oh... Obama's still in town, and as geography has it the hotel he stays at is only half a block from the makerspace I use. I better get moving, and give myself some extra travel time to get there. Have a good Friday everyone!

Re: The Bar 2016 Edition
Hi JoelN (and everybody else), nice to see you!
Hopefully everyone had a great weekend, whether out and about or on a grand adventure. Ours was certainly interesting - mostly boring and work-ish or filled with errands, but coming home on Saturday night there was a nutter on the bus shouting at the driver, it escalated and the guy was asked to leave and as he got off the bus and the door closed he got violent and smashed a window on the door with the metal handle of his cane. Hijinks ensued, but nobody was hurt and he was apprehended without incident. Beyond that, it was a decent work weekend. Got a bunch of stuff out of storage in prep for camping later this week, as well as things that need to be prepped for the playa. Tis the season!

Hi bar....many thanks for the birthday wishes, I am just getting back to "signal". Still 18 hours to get home. The HOF was wonderful, the Happy Birthday song was a surprise. As usual, way too much great foods, the pies were serious. Thanks to all for the weekend, I am gratefull to have you all as friends.

MDF: I stopped by my dealer source last night and started accumulating cheese waffle snacks....I bought out their entire month's stock (less than a case's worth, but every bag is one more for the meet 'n' greet). SO, that's one thing you don't have to worry about and something to look forward to.MyDearFriend wrote:Hello da Bar!

Re: The Bar 2016 Edition
I know exactly how you feel, MDF! I feel more behind the 8-ball than usual, since everything got pretty disrupted for a good month or so. We're getting ready to go camping later this week, though, and strangely I think I'm on top of stuff prepping and packing for that. Got a couple new signs made, I've got some new art that's intended for the playa but can come with over the weekend, and I even have my tool bins packed up. I've got a new structure design to build and test and would have liked to have had the time and opportunity to do that before we go, but this won't be the first time I've left town with a bunch of tools, parts, and uncut conduit and knocked together a rocking structure in no time. I still need to pack clothes and stuff, but there's time for that and I need to finish up my laundry first.
As for the big trip, I'm feeling very anxious. Ideally I wanted the parts all cut in May, and was just about to start booking time on machines when everything went sideways. And then with the workshop place I use changing over to some new equipment, I've been getting all trained up on that plus getting things ready for the weekend. Once I get back it'll be time to get cracking on that bar cart!
In the meantime, it's time for a drink (of your choice, naturally). I'm having vodka & vicious chemicals - how about you?

Scored free tickets to the Nats game last night, yay! Our guys played great (despite the rain) even the new young rookie pitcher, so that was extra-fun.
Need to complete something today to assuage my prep-anxiety. Change batteries in one flashlight, maybe.
oh wait I did that yesterday...
