Hello from Bristol (UK) virgins

Post by bobsmyno1dog » Mon Jul 04, 2016 1:22 pm

Hello people of eplaya!

Couple heading to Burning Man for the first time this year during a road trip around the south west (before we head on to Asia for a while). We want to hire a camper (and have a couple lined up) but taking it to the playa seems to be an area of contention... Anyone with any previous experience renting a camper and taking it to the playa, we would appreciate your advice (especially about the extra cleaning fee). We have read quite a few blogs and websites but there seems to be no consensus. Opinions include... clean it well, you'll be fine / pay to have it properly cleaned / the playa will damage the paint, metal, rubber seals, engine filters etc.

Also considered renting a large car from Turo (but we're both 24), and even buying a van then selling it ...

Thanks :)

Welcome to ePlaya. Bristol is the Santa Cruz of the UK, right?

There are many ePlaya threads on renting RVs "Recreational Vehicles" in US speak. Many are rented far in advance. Renting from burner-friendly then thoroughly cleaning on return is good. We spent about half a day with 5 people cleaning ours. If you are on a long trip around the West USA, do that cleaning, but you may escape scrutiny of a burner specific rental. Also check that GPS in the vehicle.

Craigslist is a popular buy-sell website for vehicles in the US. You will have to deal with title transfer, insurance and licensing in USA state by state.

Thanks for getting back to us some seeing eye...

Bristol and the south west are known for their more independent or noncomformist ways - the home of Glastonbury festival. Laid back, creative and attractive.

On RV / Campers, we are probably going to rent a small van rather than RV because of cost over the length of our trip. Intend to clean it well as we'll have plenty of time after BM with the vehicle. Any recommendation for finding out whether the vehicle is GPS tracked?

The logistics of buying and selling a vehicle are probably not worthwhile for the length of our stay in the USA (2 months-ish).

We'll be sure to check out some other threads.

Cheers

Welcome to eplaya.
Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

Hey there, welcome to eplaya.

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me
