Relax, guys.... deep breaths. People hold their vehicles, art projects, and labors of love close to their hearts, it's easy to take offense when another person's posts take what read as insulting tones. Text can be a tricky medium, and guessing at somebody else's tone of voice can often lead to reading something meant to be funny as insulting.

That said... yesterday was lots of deep breaths for me. We went off to a campout last weekend and had a great time, and thought that we might be able to avoid the painful drive back from Nevada to SF on a major holiday by taking an extra day. It was less painful than the time we drove home on a major holiday, but still all kinds of painful. 3 hours longer than it should have taken, but we made it in one piece.... and the weekend was so much fun, just what we needed after a crazy couple months. Now I'm working to get caught up on stuff back here, plus am working my way through getting the van unpacked. The van did a great job on the trip, but when I went to move it last night (so unloading would be a much shorter trip), the sucker doesn't want to start... fingers crossed that it won't be too complex or expensive to fix.

Oh, no. I wasn't that far off with my prediction. The fact there is now going to BE a new Sharknado movie wasn't that hard. That it might have the story set in Nevada I gave a one in 10 chance. So where is the new one set?

No, I wasn't on the playa, I was at a different campout (90 minutes or so south from the turnoff on I-80 you take for Burning Man) called Burning Girl.

Sharknado 4: Leaving Las Vegas

It's funny that the surprise ratings draw the first one turned out to be has led to a whole cottage industry of cheap made-for-tv improbably disaster flicks. Sharktopus, Sharktopus versus pteracuda, lavalantula, and don't forget the currently-in-production 2lava2lantula. Oh yeah, I think I saw Shark Lake listed on the internets somewhere, where some freak of science and nature makes it plausible that killer sharks would be in Tahoe. That one stars Dolph Lundgren, I think.

Man, the world has been a bag of crazy lately. Yesterday afternoon there were swarms of helicopters and police in my neighborhood, and then news of a lockdown at a nearby hospital. Reports of an explosion and gunshots, which in the end turned out to be some jackass setting off an M-80 and a string of firecrackers (they evacuated the whole hospital before they found the remains). Then again for protests, and then even more crazy in Dallas last night. Let's hope that cooler and calmer heads prevail, and we (collectively) can figure out a way to treat each other fairly and with respect.

I ended up getting lucky on Wednesday, sort of. After jiggling the wires and checking/tightening the connections on the battery, the van started right up (that's the lucky part). Unfortunately, the spot I was moving the van to (right outside our door) got gobbled up just as I got within 50 feet! There were a couple other spots around the corner, still pretty close, so I made my way over there and got ready to back in. Literally as I was starting to back across the street into the space, some jackass came flying in from the other direction and took the space I was backing into.... WTF! So I pulled forward and angled so I could back into the remaining spot a little further up the street... and of course, there's a tree smack dab behind me. I waited til after the hardware store closed to try moving it again and got a spot closer to us, and then unloaded all the stuff that needed to come into the house.

Now today will involve going through bins and washing stuff, and hopefully also include some time for tinkering around with projects. Happy Friday everyone!
