Trilo:

Regarding Sharknado 4, I made a do-it-yourself movie poster of the Sharknado with the Man for the playa. I called it : Sharknado 4: Welcome home, hippies! It seems so apropos. After all, with the exception of the artist types, it gave new meaning to the use of chainsaws on-playa. Las Vegas and Burningman are in the same state, so I hit the one in 53 chance (including D.C., Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands) of picking the correct US venue for the new movie.

I know it cost $7 to get in.
It's part of Reno arttown taking place through out all of July.
Some events are free, others you have to pay during arttown.

There was a chalk art event at the Atlantis parking lot. Saw it on the news last night and in todays RGJ. It looked cool.

You're in the right place for it. Tell me, do they migrate south from South Dakota to winter in other states? They make a big deal out of selling the carcasses (taxidermic composites of antelope and jackrabbit) at Wall Drug in SD.

Burningman seems to have a long history with critters. First, there were reports of chupacabra in Center Camp, hence the Chupacabra Policia of which the Black Rock Beacon's own Shooter (RIP, my friend) was a part. Then, just a few years ago, the Frogbat appeared. Half frog, half bat, this mutant hung around burn barrels at night, attracted by patchouli on some of the participants. Instead of being small, cute, and slapping its ass with its wings when it jumped, it was big, had a nasty disposition, and ate hippies. Otto Von Danger swore that he saw one swoop down and eat three in a single pass. It would usually reappear at the event, even after the combined forces of DPW and the Rangers tried to blow them up at the 4th of Juplaya event.

Now, Jackalopes? Tell me, do they have a hunting season on them in Utah?

They do in Wyoming.

Here's more info on the Chupacabra:

And hunting down the Frogbat at the 4th of Juplaya:

Classic stuff.

I heard a rumor that that Frogbat population of the BR Desert has exploded this year. To combat this infestation there are tentative plans to host a Frogbat Carniceria on Rod's Road.

lucky so good to hear from you I was just worrying that none of our peeps were talking today
There is a lot of controversy going on with new burners or semi new burners rallying newbies around restructuring everything

The new burner controversies were better last year

The percentage of new/first timers has generally stabilized over the last decade or so, it's around 1/3. And I think around 60% of the people on the playa in any given year are either there for the first time, or only have 1-2 burns under their belts. Only 40% are at 3+ burns. BRC census data from 2015 is here. Of course in the early days the new burner percentage was a lot higher (50% or more a year), but that was before my time. But every year, people complain about new people ruining the event.

Heading to storage last night, I passed by the spot where the Catacombs of Veils team has been building. Wow, they have a lot of pieces ready to go on that thing!

I've got a busy day ahead, hopefully I find what I'm looking for at the lumber yard (3 other spots didn't have what I needed yesterday), then I've got some cutting time booked on the CNC machine for later in the day. Woohoo, time to get caught up!

Morning Bar!
I took a quick look at the calendar and realized I leave for Nevada 5 weeks from today. 35 days left to prepare.

I've been working on getting ready since the middle of March and somehow my list keeps getting longer!

Probably my biggest worry though is my dog. She was diagnosed with cancer 6 weeks ago, they operated once but it came back and now its inoperable and its pretty aggressive. Shes not too sick now but its getting worse. Her days are numbered. I have someone lined up to take care of her while I am gone, if she makes it that far.

Sigh. Life is a roller coaster. I'm sure everyone here has lost a pet, its still hard.

So much can happen in 35 days.

Hey there bar peeps!
ZigZag I'm sorry to hear about your pup... Losing pets is horrible. Grateful my two kitties are both healthy but in the back of my mind I always know the day is coming to say goodbye...

We're also 5 weeks from leaving for the playa (on Monday). Very excited for this year as I am every year, but as always feeling overwhelmed with the tasks ahead in the midst of that defaultia crap I am up to my neck in. Tomorrow we have a carpet prep day lined up where we will make a bunch of rolls of carpet playa friendly, sealing the edges, cleaning it up really well and making it into manageable chunks. Perhaps that process will get me to click into "holy shit, pack all of the things" mode.

Our group has a number of first timers this year, all vetted and accompanying people who have been before. Quite a few new faces in our camp. That part excites and terrifies me at the same time. I love a drama free camp and I am so hoping this group is going to be nice and chill and helpful. So far so good, as several of our newbies are coming to help tomorrow.

If you have never made it to Destiny Lounge, I'll love it if you come by and enjoy our warm hostility... I mean hospitality  We are aiming to be in great form this year with our offerings and it sounds like we will be quite close to the 3 o'clock ice stop. We're at Florin and 3:15 so please do come by and say hello!

While we are not a bar and don't encourage smoking in the lounge, there is likely to be a shot of whiskey on a table in the dark back corner next to the smoldering cigar in the ashtray, in the back, in the shadows... in memory of some someones I love and miss...

Give the jukebox a kick on the way there.
A plan is what you vary from.

Destiny Lounge 3D will be at Bradbury and 3:15 this year as a part of the 404: Village Not Found group of camps! Come see us!

Can't say I know how you feel but I know what it's like.
In May of 2014 I had to put down my white cat named Casper. He had cancer on his spine. Seconds before the vet was going to insert the needle, he picked his head up and gave me sugar five times on my right hand. I get choked up just writing this.

Try to make your dog comfortable and know she's loved.

I'm so sorry to hear about your dog, ZigZag. We lost one right before the burn in 2013, man that was tough. While a tough diagnosis is hard to live with, it does give you a bit more of that precious commodity of time. Spoil the hell out that dog, think of it as her bucket list. When ours was sick, we spoiled him with tuna and crab and other stuff he normally only got rarely (if ever). He liked to lay in one particular sunny spot, and he liked laying on fabrics when we worked on sewing projects, so we got a yard of posh silk and made him a fancy pillow to lay on. Spoil her and enjoy the time you have left together.

Cheers everyone, I hope you're all well and playa projects are coming along. We checked out the new Ghostbusters flick a few days ago, I have to say it was a lot of fun and better than I expected. We've also booked tickets to see Absolutely Fabulous on the big screen this coming weekend, then Suicide Squad in a couple weeks. Other than that, I'm trying to get caught up on playa projects. The bar's coming along, I hope to have pics to post in a couple days.
