New Burner From Nashville
I've never been to Burning Man before and I'm really excited about going this year! I am slowly making my way through all of the information. There's so much information!
I am terrified and overwhelmed, but in a good way... i think?
More about me, as like a person, I'm a 32 year old Pop Artist that lives outside of Nashville. I'm married with two kids, two rescue dogs, a rescue cat, and a rescue guinea pig. Art drives me, music fuels me, and my family keeps me sane.
I am going it alone this year; hoping to find some friends before I get there... maybe a camp to join.

Lizkelly and Chaps too. Welcome to eplaya. Concentrate on the necessities. Food, water, shelter, suitable clothing. Nobody will judge you on the 'extras'. Gifts aren't necessary and frankly you would miss the mark. Let your gift be a helping hand. Most of the swag I receive is from 1st time burners that thought they HAD to bring gifts. NO, no, no. Help someone struggling with a tarp. Stand in one spot for an hour holding a pole or pipe while the shade goes up. Shine a light for someone. Help carry luggage from the burner bus to their camp.
Keep it simple. Don't get me wrong. Burning Man is very much an equipment sport. We ALL love to show off our stuff. Just get yourself there and back. Write this down....Wednesday night 6pm Eplaya Meet & Greet. Barbie Death Camp. we'll hug you. The secret password is pineapple. (It's only open to you and about 1,000 other eplayans. 150 will actually show up.) Food and drink supplied by attendees. Can't wait to hug you.

Welcome.
Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Welcome lizkelly! We're across the river in East Nashville. We are leaving tomorrow playa-bound, and hope to see you in the dust in a few weeks.

If I can remember this [the Meet & Greet] I am showing up with gifts and camera. And before that, I'm going to be a helping madman. 'Thankkkkkkkkks, we don't need any help.' 'Yeaaaaah, I'm helping anyway.' 'N-O, we're asking you to leeeeeeeave.' 'Can't heeeeeaaarrrr you, staaaaayyyying---take my gift.'Ratty wrote:Lizkelly and Chaps too. Welcome to eplaya. Re: New Burner From Nashville
Thanks for all of the welcomes!
I won't be bringing a camera, unless I can find a cheapie one before I leave, but I will be bringing a sketchbook!
I'm not worried about dressing up as much as I'm focused on just getting there. But I tend to just have fun clothes on hand that I never wear and NOW I'LL GET TO!
I have a little notebook that I've been writing things in, because I know I won't want my phone coming along to remind me of things. Once I get there it'll be like a playa journal. The meet'n'greet is going in there now.

And Ratty's right . . . it can be hard to gift cleverly your first year. Assistance and invitations are quite literally the two nicest gifts I know of. You can also spot a need on the fly, and fill it. You might find yourself gifting spare travel-size toiletries--or a 1/2 roll of 1-ply travel T.P. to someone searching desperately for TP in the biffies at night. Or you might offer a seat in the shade and a cold drink to a tired passerby. That's really the way of it.
Welcome!
